Do all 3rd gen TRD Off Road 4x4s have crawl control?

New member here--Tacoma world has been a pretty helpful guide in searching for a new truck.

I'm currently looking at a truck I think a dealership has mislabeled as an SR5. It's a 3rd Gen Tacoma with TRD Off Road 4x4 stickers on the truck bed. The dealer page and Carfax both say it is an SR5. Unfortunately, the truck is four hours away from me and I want to make sure it's a TRD Off Road 4x4 before I spend 8 hours round trip driving to check it out.

The photos show keyless ignition and a wireless charger (which don't come standard on an SR5, but do on a TRD Off Road).

Yesterday, I called a salesman and had him look for certain features. I described that crawl control knob and asked if he saw it next to the rear-view mirror. He told me didn't see any kind of knob.

The easy solution to this would have been to ask him to facetime me, but I don't have an iPhone. I'm waiting on additional photos of the interior and the original window sticker from the salesman.

Can a Tacoma 4x4 have the TRD Off Road package without crawl control? Are there other features on the Tacoma that would conclusively show this truck isn't an SR5?

    Thanks!

1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels
A TRD Off Road would not have crawl control if it was a manual. It would have ATRAC instead. Crawl Control is a standard feature for the automatic Off Roads.

why not just ask for a picture of the overhead console since you cant facetime?

Here is the relevant portion of the VIN: 3TMCZ5AN0

The VIN decoders I used seem to indicate "CZ5AN0" is an SR5 trim. I don't think this is right though, because several TRD 4x4 Off Roads with crawl control I 'm looking at have that same series/body/engine sequence.

If it doesn't have a rear locking diff (RR DIFF LOCK) button it isn't a TRD OffRoad.

If it's a Toyota dealership they should be able to put the VIN in their information system and send you a full build sheet of everything it came with that was factory, port, and dealer installed.

In many years TRD isn't a trim, it's a package on top of the SR5 trim.

The picture you posted shows a TRD package (either TRD Sport or TRD OR). Both the diff lock button and the MTS/crawl knob are on the overhead console. If the bed sticker says OR then it's probable enough for you to risk driving over.

What's the link to the dealer listing?

Yea I think besides the base SR they are all considered SR5 trims with added packages. But your best bet would be to just have them send you a picture of the ceiling next to the mirror and see what’s up there. Also if you don’t have an iPhone, just download Microsoft teams or something along that line and set up a meeting through there and use the cameras. FaceTime is not the only way to have a virtual meeting.

SR5 with the Off Road Package, aka Off Road. The insurance card will even note it as an SR5.

Toyota dropped the SR5 badge on the 3rd gen. AFAIK, I'm the only one who has added it back. :D

My OR has a top console just inside of the mirror. Dial control for MTS, button for locker, button for crawl control.

When I was shopping, there were a lot of dealerships that had no clue what they were selling. Many were listed as 'TRD' or "OFFROAD' that were SR or SR5.

Definitely learn what to look for, and verify it yourself!

Defiantly smart for checking ahead of time. I can't see why sales guy can't snap a pic and text it to you while you are on the phone, or within minutes, this makes me skeptical. We’ve had these capabilities for two decades.

putting false badging on vehicle is almost as old as the world oldest profession
    the fast tells:
SR/SR5s do not come with a 100W/400W inverter, needs to be a TRD package
OR/Pros come with the rear e-locker (Sports come with LSD/simulated LSD), I'll assume Limiteds have one or the other

The salesman knows it's an SR5 and that's why they're not sending a picture of the overhead console. They're hoping you'll make the drive and they can convince you to buy it anyway. Don't waste your time, look elsewhere for the truck you want.

3TMCZ5AN5 is some of my 2022 TRDOR vin. Don't know what the last 5 instead of your 0 means.

That's usually the number vehicle made on the assembly line. (example 35,678 truck made so far)

edit: The last 4-5 digits represent what number vehicle it was on the assembly line; I have no idea what the 5 stands for.
