I don't carry anything that would require a steel bed.

My plastic bed doesn't have white scratches everywhere like their metal bed.

Fonty has the worst interior of all the trucks, I mean its just cheap o looking...I'll admit I test drove the NISMO - Nissan just plain shit the bed on the interiors. Cheap as hell feeling, Seats suck, the back seat is straight up and down, MPG sucks. rim also suck compared to other trucks, no long beds, warranty denials by Nissan makes Toyota look great - shall I go on. The Fonty is an overall POS compared to the far superior Taco.

I have no complaints at all about the plastic bed. At first I thought I would get a bed mat for it but I like how things easily slide when loading/unloading. I added the extra D-ring mod and couldn't be happier with the bed.

Love the bed..... one of the best things they ever did. No maintenance, no rust, no dents, no dings, no need to repaint it, etc.

Just think about it - in 30 years, the only structural thing left will be the bed!

The composite bed is awesome. Does the job of a steel bed, just without the maintenance.

ARE YOU CALLING MY TRUCK A PUSSY!?!?!?! :censored:

    Lol. Nah im kidding.

To be honest, I couldnt be happier with my bed. Ive loaded with 3 times the max weight that is adviced you put in it. Worked flawlessly. The only thing that was struggling in my truck in those time where ive super loaded my truck has been the damn shaft bearing, but thats because it was already damaged... and I already fixed it... It was damaged because I abused it anyhow... Now try doing that in a Fonzie, err Fronty, err whatever... I actually remember being a storm which was flooding the streets and running past Frontiers, F150s, and others while I had almost 2k in my bed.

As for it being plastic. I work with pools, so I use a lot of granulated chlorines. Its fun to see 1 year old Frontiers and Rangers and such with their bed eaten halfway by rust because of the chlorine while my bed is brand new still. In my honest opinion, having a composite bed is not a downside, its an upgrade and a requirement for my business. Not to mention if I ever break it because I added too much weight, I can reinforce it from below.

Oh and btw. I have a friend in the pool business. He has a Frontier. His transmission and rear axle went out because he loaded it with too much weight... he loaded about 800 LB... while I daily have at least 1K... Anyhow, he is still under warranty... warranty wont cover it, they said... Supposedly he abused the truck beyond its capabilities... Lol... Frontys...

I do like the plastic bed though!

Just sold my "97" Taco the nice metal bed had several rust holes and was pretty beat up from fire wood some how I don't think my "11" will when it has 247K miles on it.

Nice to see this has turned into a "Why Composite Beds are Amazing" thread.

I agree with the guy that said it was the smartest thing Toyota ever did. I couldn't imagine having a metal bed now. You have two options with a metal bed- Let it get scratched to hell, or spend more money out of pocket on a bed liner, which in the end will NEVER look as good as our beds.

There is no question in my mind this composite bed will preform well above the capacities of the truck. And less weight equals less fuel, but it does make our rear ends a little light. Saved a guy like me a spray in liner upgrade I would do with a metal bed. However I do like the rubber mat with the composite bed, as things do slide around easy without it.

I have to say I was litle off by "plastic" bed but then I find out its composite. I have nothing but good things to say about "new" bed.

Also check out "over the top skid plates" those are HDPE skid plates that are much lighter then steel ones and can take more abuse then steel. FJ folks running them and I have to say they do perform ;) So "plastic" is relative term at this point.
