Do I have a bad alternator?

Looks similar/same to mine..I only say similar b/c mine is a 2.7 4 cylinder. That will be the seed right there.

IDK, how long can you go without the alternator really acting up..I might have a chance.

 

Changed the alternator today.

A word to the wise: once the old alternator is freed, it is nothing short of a BITCH to get it out of the engine bay. If the convoluted pathway that it ultimately passes through were literally .010" smaller, it wouldn't come out.

 

However it falls through the bottom pretty well, ask me how I know haha

She purrs like a kitten now.

Well, except for the ever-present 1GR valve tap.

Having that whine was unsettling. Felt like driving a time bomb. I'd love to know how much longer that alternator would have lasted.

 

Look over your battery and make sure there aren’t any overheating “bubbles” on the plastic housing. A bad alternator can cause your battery to work harder and it can overheat if the cells start going bad.

 

True, but some questions might be best unanswered haha.

I looked at the battery today. It seemed fine.

It’s a Costco (Interstate) AGM battery, FWIW.
