I have what I believe to be a 1998 xtracab sr5, however when the vin is entered into any system it is only regarded as a 98 xtracab. I know the original owner, and am confident the badges are not aftermarket, as well I have the original window sticker that proves the vehicle contains the sr5 package. So why is it that the VIN does not recognize this?

SR5 is a trim option from the factory. If it came with those options then it's a SR5.

To add, it's why keeping the original window sticker [if bought new] with the truck or in the manual can be important down the road.

If the truck has all the SR5 goodies then its an SR5 regardless of what the window sticker states. Just enjoy the truck

Trim levels are only recognized by many systems on later models where it really matters. For example: SR5 then just meant it had accessories. Now days XLE on some models may mean its equipped with the V6 and a totally different bumper / trim package or exclusive colors. Back in the 90s it was basic accessory stuff unlike today.

The window sticker you posted is literally giving you the answer to your question.

Thank you, this seems to be the answer that explains the issue im experiencing. Unfortunately the frame is rotten and I was exploring options to sell the vehicle, Peddle had given me a quote when i claimed the sr5 trim but it lowered the quote when the VIN did not recognize the SR5 package.

The Toyota online VIN lookup shows a little more detail for my 2003 -- the SR5 option is noted. I guess the 1998 VIN lookup doesn't look the same?

You shouid see the Gen 2 world -- my double cab, 4WD, TRD Off-Road is called a "base" truck in the Toyota VIN system.

When you go to sell it slap that sticker back on and roll with that price.
