Question for all the people with an oem style ditch light switch. Do you have to solder the wires together, or can you just twist them together and a add a heat shrink?

    Solder, heat shrink is proper.

For interior connections you can use non soldering connections. Plenty of quick connect connectors to use.

but yes you can twist them and heat shrink. Can also use this

Proper splice is to twist the two wires axially with each other, solder and then heat shrink. If you don’t want to solder…then glue lined heat shrink butt connectors, regular heat shrink butt connectors, butt connectors, wire nuts, twisting and heat shrink, twisting and electrical tape…in that order.

Soldering if at all possible for exterior connections. That avoids low voltage later due to oxidation between the wires.
