I read that Toyota's 1GRFE aren't pressed on, and should slide right on without an installer tool. Is that true? Same with removing, will I need a remover to take it off. I can't find a definitive answer.

    Thanks.

It isn't a tapered fit. I've gotten them to slide off with no tools. If there's the chance it is rusted, might not be a terrible idea to have a puller on hand. You will need the special tool to counter hold the sprocket while removing or installing the bolt. If you have a 6MT, you can just drop it in low range, set the brake, and use the driveline to hold it in place.

It just slid right off. After breaking a breaker bar and impact socket, and using a 900 ftlb and 1500 ftlb impact with no luck. The new breaker bar with a short socket and engine bump did it. 3 hours for one bolt. What a PITA. And I have auto, so I’ll have to make a holder to torque it back down.

When I did mine, my 600 ft-lb air impact zipped it right off with no issues at all.
