do i need aftermarket ucas with a 3 inch coilover?

    I plan on getn a 01-04 taco trd 4x4 and I'm wondering...

    If I get a 3 inch coilover lift through icon or camburg or whoever would I need to purchase aftermarket ucas?

    If so I seen a couple threads saying go with tc ucas if I do go aftermarket...any other
    suggetions?

    I was told 3 inch coilover was the way to go on a 1st gen taco...

    Total Chaos UCA with Fox 2.5 RR coilovers, OME Dakars with Fox 2.0s on the rear, BFG KM2 on KMC Enduro's, All-Pro Hybrid Bumper, SDTruckShopRock Sliders, Warn 9.5XP winch, LightForce 170s, Leer 100XR, and ATO Hi-Lift Mount.
    Coilover lifts are a good choice, but the more expensive option. OME makes coil spring lifts, and has shocks that get good reviews. Bilstein 5100's are another option.

    Start reading thru build threads and get some ideas.

    Yes get new ucas. Anything over 2.5" will need them. Alignment will never be right and you might have some road wander

    6" Pro Comp suspension lift kit, Flow master dual Exhaust, Volant CAI, Missing Tailgate (some asshole stole it)
    I agree with achirdo, but its not required. Definitely recommended. Alignment is key after the coilover and lift, you can ruin your tires quick if you don't get it done. Don't eyeball it like I did, you'll regret it. I like Total chaos, if you want a comparison Fabtec has some nice (expensive) UCA's. Good luck

    I just installed Light Racing UCA's on my '04 after a 3 inch lift. You can get them for $379.00 plus shipping at Fat Bobs Garage, but you have to call in the order. When I got my alignment done the day after the install the camber and caster were spot on they didn't make any adjustments to it at all. The LR UCA's in my opinion are a must. Rides and feels great on the road.

    Alright so obviously its best to go wit the ucas also after what you guys say...

    Another thing is installation, I could do it my self but I did my lift not on this 92 pickup I have now but a 93 before it and I went to get it aligned and they wudnt because I had made it to where I installed the (terrible fits that rough country provided btw) lift and the front diff was like tilted at a angle both up an down, and from side side by not much but enough for the shop to say they couldn't do it...and the only way they would is if THEY were the ones who put it on...

    Would this be a problem?...has anyone installed it themselves then had it aligned, or jus have a shop do it?...

    I did my own install of the UCA and the alignment shop I went to (Town Fair Tire) did the alignment with no problems.

    I lost track thousands of dollars ago.
    With a 1st Gen you don't need UCA's to get back into spec mine went beck into spec with out replacing the UCAs.

    And really? Ok well maybe ill figure out the lift first then put it on and see if I don't need em, then great! If I do no biggie if it provides a better ride right?

    The Light Racing UCA's Offer more than alignment.

    • Significant Camber and Caster change that would correct ride quality and tire wear issues for a wide range of lifts and uses
    • More articulation than the OE ball joint
    • More clearance for the spring and tire than the OE arm
    • OE quality ride with rubber bushings and OE style ball-joint assembly that would never require service
    • Higher strength than the OE arm for extreme off-road use

    I have also read that with these arms and ball joints the lift is a lot less hard on the upper ball joint. Lifts can sometimes cause premature wear on stock ball joints.

    These are just things I have found through extensive researching. Not first hand experience.

    Maybe I should stop asking qs an resaerch lol I guess its easier in your own question tho lol...and really, ill prolly get some then but I see that a lot of people prefer total chaos...I know you have the have the LR UCAs so what made u pick them and not total chaos? Were u just not aware of them? More costly? Or did LR have better reviews at the time being? On sale at the time?...sorry I'm just curious

    Hey, no problem it was a money thing for me. At the deal I got on the LR's, almost half of what Total Chaos cost. I also liked the ball joint style of the LR UCA versus the uni-ball on the TC. From what I have read the uni-ball is higher maintenance tends to squeak. But honestly it was the money. I read a lot of good reviews on the LR UCA also from Google searching, TW, and TTORA. All in all it seemed to be the best bang for the buck.
