In my experience (once on our own front wheel drive car, once on a friend's rear wheel drive, both 2wd) the traction isn't quite as good. So you'll get more wheelspin. Once there was wheelspin, the cables snapped. Your mileage may vary, but the modern quick-install chains that Z or X across the tires, are so easy to put on and use that the alternatives aren't worth it. Unless you really NEED them in deep snow and big truck and then the heavy duty bar chains are the best.

Just put a 4x4 sticker on and you'll be fine. :stirthepot::locked:

Better to have them and not need them, then need them and not have them!

Don't laugh. I haven't been in the snow since I bought my new Taco, but I removed the TRD OR 4x4 stickers (don't like the look) and there's no 4x4 or 4wd on the mud flaps like older trucks. I'm curious to see if I'll still get waved through.

    enough to go over stuff
My in-laws live in Tahoe. we visit them almost every weekend in the winter to ski. I drive through multiple chain checks every weekend. Only once have I been required to show that I carried chains in my 4x4 and only once did they require me to put the chains on my 4x4 when they had closed the highway and allowed me to proceed anyway. 99% chance you will be fine without them. But you should pick some up at walmart for piece of mind.
