I just installed the air dam on my off road. Evidently i needed to remove a tow hook or recovery hook in order for the air dam to fit.

Do the tacoma sport and limited come with one or is it mounted differently ?14690526753551712286659.jpg

You dont need it, it just makes for a very easy place to hook onto if you need tugged out. There are other places on the front of the truck to hook onto that will cause no damage if you are smart about it.

If you felt the need to mount an air dam on an OR than you probably don't need that

It's a tow hook. You don't necessarily "need" it, but it makes it easier if you ever need a tow or need to be pulled out if you get stuck offroad. Don't throw it out, some people on here could use that if you were willing to let it go. Could get some decent money for it. Or you could be a nice guy and offer it for free.

Slightly off topic: is there a shackle mount that will fit in that location?

Just saying. I gave mine away for free before I knew what they were worth. I found out right before I went to the post office to send it out. I don't regret it however- it was going to sit on a shelf in my garage otherwise and I'd never put it back on the truck anyhow. Besides, we are supposed to help eachother are we not?

Yes there is. Would be careful with something like that. Would hate to see the bolts shear off and then have a hunk of metal rocketing through the air toward the other vehicle. Not saying it would happen, just saying it could happen.

Yeah why did you install an air dam?

I guess you don't need it if the only thing you do with your truck is drive to the mall and back. I bought one of those tow hooks for my truck that didn't originally have it and have used it multiple times to drag logs off the road and once to break a fence post that I couldn't dig out. It's also somewhat of a safety feature and I wouldn't leave the pavement without it.

I wouldn't bother with the air dam and would put the tow hook back on. The air dam does next to nothing for your gas mileage, there was a member on here awhile back that posted his MPG findings with his air dam on versus off...virtually no difference. It just hurts your approach angle and makes you more susceptible to dragging it on something. The tow hook is a much more practical feature.

I bought the air dam for a cross country trip. Saving 1 mpg over a 8k mile road trip pays off. I was just wondering how the sport has an air dam and recovery hook ? Are they different ones ?

    Thanks for the help guys
