Do I need to re-tune or dyno tune my 3rd gen Tacoma if I have Magnuson supercharger and install nitro 4.88 gear?

Presume you are AT and not MT ??? did you flash the Tune Magnuson sent you? If so what Version was it ? Seven? And if you added the gears after you completed the vehicle modification submittal (part of getting the Tune from them) then you should get with Ryan and get a modified tune for the added gears.

With all that said - I have 4.88 and tune from Magnuson that came with the kit. Their (Magnuson) shifting logic is SHIT. I doubt their Tune will satisfy you when it comes to shifting. There will be an alternative to the Magnuson Tune for you that will meet your shifting expectations and performance. It is being developed by YotaWerx so watch their thread and stay in contact with @mZiggy .

Without a 4.88 tune, you can lose some speed off of the stock speed limiter. I believe it was about 108 on a stock truck and know that it goes down to about 83-ish with 5.29s.

@GoldenBrew It is an AT. I have not actually installed the Magnuson SC yet. It is still at the shop waiting to be installed, but it will be installed by the time I get the nitro gear. I'm not certain if it is version 7, but the Magnuson calibration would be used.

 

Dyno tune if they have the software and use street tires when dynoing for numbers.

 

That depends. Are you doing both at the same time or did you already have the supercharger and are just putting gears?

 

The gear tune is only a change to the speed limiter. Setting the main speed limiter map to something unobtainable or flashing a 4.88 tune from Magnuson would have no other effect.


Hell, I put a few miles on @mZiggy 's S/C tunes. They felt crazy good. LoL!

I second this - I run / test @mZiggy SC tune and it is way better than the Magnuson Tune. Hands down better in another league than what Maggy is going to dump on you.
