So I'm getting ready to replace my carrier bearing which is shot and u joints. I read somewhere that when you replace the carrier bearing its also recommended to replace drive shaft. Is this true? I hope not.

Definitely not without good reason. Unless a yoke or other part of the driveshaft is damaged, that would be like replacing your engine because you need an oil change and new spark plugs. Even then, individual yokes can be replaced, even the welded ones by any competent driveline shop.

Match mark all pieces before disassembly and reassemble them exactly the same way to maintain your driveshaft's balance and phasing. In other words, be sure the only thing that's different is the new parts, everything else must be reassembled the same as it was in relation to each piece.

That's what I thought. Wouldn't make sense to replace a perfectly good drive shaft.
    Thanks
