I only coat mine once a year, in the fall but, I coat it EXTREMELY HEAVILY. yes it is a lot of work, even 1 time a year, for this 55 year old but,... I KNOW it was done to my liking, and my standard of quality. In reality, it is so thick on two of the 4 vehicles I have, I probably could have skipped the application this year. but, I wanted to try out the newest lanolin version by PB Blaster, called Surface Shield. it seems like a thicker, longer lasting version of FF, and WW. time will tell. My truck is 5 years old. I live in central PA where they salt & use other nasty stuff on the roads. I’ve never used any rust preventative products, but have been considering it.

I’ve had no issues with serious rust. This past summer, I did slide under it and give everything a new coat of black paint to freshen it up. Looks like new again.

I’ve been contemplating using Fluid Film or something similar, but I live down a mile long stone & dirt lane. I’ve been told everything sticks to this stuff. So, I’ve been reluctant to use any out of fear my undercarriage will be caked in mud, stones, pebbles, & grit making it miserable to work on, unsightly, and possibly causing other problems.

I think I’m going to grab a can or two and do the inside of my rockers just to be safe.

I'd be careful if mixing brands of these rust inhibiters over each other. Believe me you don't want what happened to a buddies trd when he did this.

    Expand please...

The first year I sprayed on FF, the next year I sprayed a mix of FF and WW. this year, I sprayed Surface Shield. All products I applied are in the lanolin line. I havent saw any issues after any of the applications, at this time. I would like to hear, about what you heard/saw. Ski

A buddy of mine sprayed cosmoline over fluid flim done a week before thinking he'd have double the protection. Some sort of reaction took place where the cosmoline wouldn't cure, but just kept dripping all over his driveway, and garage floor making a mess. He ended up having to power wash the chassis well to remove it all so he could re-cosmoline it a day later.

Gulf Coast, salt water??? (I'm just guessing here, as I come from the land of snow & salt)

I would do it, just to have it penetrate between the cracks and welding joints of the frame. Also can't hurt to do the whole vehicle as the inside of your body panels could use a little penetration.

Good preventative maintenance regardless of where you live.

    Do vehicles rust there?

If they do, yes. if they don’t, no.

I could see a problem doing that. Doing the reverse, especially as a touch up, I would see no issues. the Cosmoline wants to dry, and cure. the fluid film (all lanolin base products) will want to stay soft (fluid).

placing a product wanting to dry over one that doesnt, wont end well.

placing a fluid (wet) product, over a cured dried product might result in a softening of the first applied product but, I dont think it would have as bad as a reaction, as the prior example. (but, I could be mistaken).

best advice, pick a product and stay with it, if it works for you, and your application. Ski

I talked w/ this guy in Omaha.
    https://www.gottschsgoo.com/omaha-undercoating

He said he switched from Fluid Film to Woolwax after reading about rubber deterioration from the former. I had already put Fluid Film on, but next year I’ll switch over to Woolwax just to be safe.
