That’s good advice, not to fool with it.
Mine was not leaking, I have the 8mm studs and some top ones were loose and I took care of with a few minutes of my time.
But If lady luck would have dealt me a broken stud, I’ve issued a few well chosen words, rolled up my sleeves and replaced it in a few hrs no problemo.

But that’s just me, your mileage may vary and I don’t recommend it, just be calm and wait till you get the letter and they have the parts. No need to make your life any more difficult on such a minor issue.

That's what I'd do. "I heard about the recall and looked under there and was horriffied."

I just dropped my tacoma off at dealership to see whats what with my rear differential. I found it leaking, then upon inspecting it closer, found all the dfferential housing bolts/nuts to be hand tight. Fuckin unreal. Then i went to snug them up at 18ft lbs and two were stripped out. Then one of my bolts fuckin sheared off soon as i snugged it up. Crazy. Never imagined id be facing some shit like this on my tacoma with only 44k on the clock, never offroaded/abused. i’ll post what happens here for those dealing with this also

Got my truck back today- Toyota covered the repair, which was only installing new studs/nuts and gasket in my rear diff. They also paid for my car rental for the two days they had my truck. Pretty lucky and pleased with how they took care of me.
