I take a few classes at the local community collage and there are a bunch of pure bro dozer chevys that a lot of the younger kids fresh out of high school drive. Had one talk shit about it being a little rice burner foreign trash. I simply replied it was built in Texas.

Most people I know are impressed with Tacomas and know they are at the the top for trucks.

top for small light duty trucks. no doubt. but the 1000-1200 lb payload is kind of a joke in the "Truck" world at large. Suits me just fine.

Never get shit for driving a Toyota in regards to brand, most everyone I encounter understands Toyota reliability.

More often than not I hear "Why didn't you buy a Tundra?"

I honestly laughed at this, I bet in 10 years your Tacoma would still be in that lot with 0 problems!

that usually comes up with me too, people around here already know why we buy toyotas. I tell them I didn't buy a tundra because the gas mileage is bad and I don't tow anything bigger than a small flatbed with some 4 wheelers.

speaking of. I put these nerf bars on my Taco for my short legged wife...

first halfway serious 4x4 trip, first kinda hard place I missed the line on, whack, I banged the driver side nerf step, and pushed it 1-2" backwards (still fully functional)

so I probably should replace those with something sturdier that would work like sliders. does anyone make bolt-on gen2 sliders that double as steps ?

even at 0 deg, I bet they wouldn't be low or wide enough for my wife. hmmm. maybe I can hang sacrificial nerf steps below some relatively minimalist snug sliders, hah.

This post made my day! Mostly cause I've been thinking about the same think.... (wouldn't work, the mounts will need to cross I think, given I didn't have sliders and nerf steps at the same time so I wouldn't know.

Everywhere I go people tell me how they want a Tacoma. They tell me how they always wanted a Tacoma and if a good deal comes up they would buy one. They ask me what year mine is and how like driving it.

    Never get crap about it.

a few people have but then I see what they are driving and I just laugh to myself and keep quiet. My truck meets my needs and is set up how I like it (or in the process of getting there-always can do new mods) and that is what matters to me.

I've gotten a couple of jabs from my buddies. One drives a F150 FX4 and the other drives a F250 FX4 (lifted). At the time I had to park in a parking garage for work and my Tacoma fit in there perfect. The F150 would fit, but not as good as the Tacoma. But, I don't care what they say. My buddy in the F250 said to me "great, the Japs are taking over" when he saw my truck.

Plus, I went to an Acura dealer recently to get my wifes RDX serviced. I walked around and looked at the Acura ILX. Build sheet said "Assembled in East Liberty, OH", engine from Japan and transmission from United States. 55% parts sourced from US and 45% from other locations (something like this, I can't remember word for word). To me, this sounded more American made than Japanese.

Tell him his American truck was probably built in Mexico or Canada and your Toyota was built in the states (at least mine was).

Edit: ugh zombie thread, sorry for responding to a 7 year old post lol

Around here no one gives me any crap since most of the locals know you can't kill a Toyota with a shotgun and a large axe! Even rusted out Tacomas , T-100s and Tundras bring top dollar here since the drive-train is usually pretty bulletproof, and a lot of guys convert no longer street legal Toyotas into hunting buggies and backwoods runners.

Maybe the only reason GM, Ford, and Chrysler still in business is because of these (patriotic) people. Personally I wouldn't buy a car, no matter how much I like it, if it was manufactured buy a company that does not respect or care about its costumers and simply selling them junky cars. I have a friend, he is engineer, that used to work for Ford then for Toyota. He told me that they produce parts that intended to fail after x number of use, rotation etc. and these numbers were doubled for Toyota compared to Ford.

Back to your question. I usually get hints from family and friends about driving a Tacoma and not a luxury car, since I am a physician. I always reminds them that I traded a BMW for the Tacoma
