No, I don't get any crap about driving a Toyota. Because I'm an adult and I hang out with other adults who have better things to worry about than what vehicle any of us happen to drive.

I've been in the construction and fabrication business for almost 30 years. All of it has been with companies that employ union craft and a lot of those guys could get pretty militant about buying American. One time the GC on a project pulled all 600 or 700 workers on site together to thank them for safe hours worked, schedule performance, and quality. As a token of thanks they passed out nice five panel embroidered ball caps to everyone. When the meeting broke up all the hats were laying there in the dirt. First thing the guys did was look at the label and found they were made overseas. :) Back in the 90s it wasn't uncommon for drivers of "foreign" vehicles to get off work and find slashed tires or stuff in their gas tanks. Doesn't seem to happen very often anymore, and I've never had a problem, but more than one guy has given me shit about driving "Japanese" trucks. Doesn't matter that my trucks were probably built with more USA parts and labor than their Chevys, Fords, and Mopigs. Ya just can't change willful ignorance.

well, Chevy has a 2500HD and 3500HD whcih can do things Toyotas can't dream of. Ditto Dodge 2500, 3500. or Ford F250, F350. But thats a whole different game.

We spent nearly a year shopping for a 2500 class long bed (8') xtra-cab (not crew) pickup from the mid 2000's with the thought of getting a cab-over slide-in camper, before we decided we really didn't need or want something that big. Dodge had the best diesel (cummins), Ford had the best interiors, Chevy had the best ride and decent gas engine (350). Hated the interior crap on the Chevy, hated the transmission nightmares that seem to follow Ford around, hated the dodge interior even worse than the Chevy.

Anytime I'm confronted with the question of being unamerican for owning a foreign truck, I ask them how many months they have spent overseas. Usually does the trick and an apology follows after.

On some hunting/fishing trips, I've had some guys who drive mostly full size domestic trucks call my truck a "toy". Irony is that when we get further back into the remote areas, they're the first to stop & turn around and say " I'm not going down that road, trail, etc."

I just chuckle and don't let it bother me.

I get a kick out of foolish statements like this. Most auto companies are global which means parts are from all over the world based on cost and quality. As a contract automotive designer I can say this, big companies domestic or foreign do not give a shit about you or I . Only the money.
