Do vehicles really go up in value?

    Nothing yet...
On a whim I went and looked up prices of 4runners and 3rd Gen tacomas and they are going up in price. 4 years ago I paid around 33 for my 2016 sport 4x4 and the TRADE value per KBB and NADA is around 35k, retail at 38k. What the heck!?

I know this isn't normal... cars do not appreciate in value (until antique, rarity etc kicks in)...

Is it cause of shortages of new ones? Pandemic results? This is crazy how much they are going for on cars.com

Used cars sales are inflated right now due to production slow down at the manufacturer levels. Being that the Tacoma is already one of the highest re-selling vehicles this doesn’t surprise me.

When car rental companies are out buying used cars to keep their fleets going, it is hard times.

When I took my 2019 TRD OR DCSB, with only 7,400 miles on it, in for the Fuel Pump recall the dealership offered to buy it from me for $1000 more than I paid for it. The market for Tacos and most other low mileage used vehicle is insane right now.

Just for the heck of it l plugged my truck in to KBB trade in value, Low was $37,182 and High was $39,266. Considering l paid $35,500 new 4 years ago that is pretty impressive.

Sure. The truck value is crazy shit. For all of us who’ve never seen real inflation, so is everything else, or soon to be. Position well, my friends.

I am 62 yo and have never seen this before and have bought more than a few new cars over the years .A lot of this is the pandemic with lack of vehicles to begin with . Some of it is because of lack of parts to build vehicles , some is from mass exodus of large cities creating a larger demand . If i had to guess , I would think prices ore going to be very volatile over the next 10 years as the old school wants to hold on to the ICE engines that "may" disappear . As ICE model endings are announced buyers will want to have one before they are no longer available . At the same time other trains of thought will be thinking , sell the ICE vehicles before they are worthless . Fun times coming - take a side .

I just got the property tax assessment from my county and my house value went up 90k this year. Prices are out of control.

Such a good and bad thing there also. I tell my wife to look at our value. Then she says we'd be hosed to buy. She refuses to consider a more sensible area.

Exactly. Anything new is going for WAY over Sticker. There was a AG Pro on the lot that they were asking $10K over MSRP for!

Used Tacoma's are more than new ones? Wow.
I am trying to rationalize this. I know there is a computer chip shortage and the dealerships are desperate for new inventory but why not wait it out until the shortage is over instead of overpaying for a used Tacoma.
Your paying more than the original owner did and he drove it for how long and now the warranty may or may not be there anymore. I think some people have more money than brains in this I have to have it now society.
