Think all that is interesting? I was at a mall today and I saw about six Tacoma's parked nearby each other. I kid you not, the gulls almost seemed unwilling to drop turd on them. It's like nature is taking notice on the value of these trucks as well.

I live in the Midwest and Arby's, well the dining room closes at 5PM because the government incentive not to work has left them with not enough employees.

I'm not sure why the government wants to embark of building/upgrading infrastructure at this point, it's not like commodities pricing and the labor force is there to do it

    It's not only Tacos...

I just sold a twenty year old GMC for over a grand more than I paid for it... five years ago.

    Hail is a biggie here.

But also property values are getting stupid. Used to be that Texas property values remained slow and stable no matter what the economy was doing. But now for the last 5 or so years they have been skyrocketing due to the population assplosion.

It seems like everything has become a Ferrari 250 GTO. The next guy will pay more

My Tacoma was listed for thousands more than I paid it new and the same with my Frontier. Yet at the end of the day I couldn't see myself paying more money for them used no matter how desperate I was. The crazy thing is how many people are still working from home or are unemployed

And yet around here there are help wanted signs literally everywhere.

And while they may not be primo jobs, a lot of folks who were laid off weren't in primo jobs to begin with.

I keep wanting to move back to CA, but the state is just a mess. The last time I went back the amount of people sleeping in the streets, trash etc just left me depressed. It's like the state peaked in the 90's and has been on a downhill slide ever since

Agreed. We have a plant in a small town in NorCal, in the boonies but still only 45 minutes inland from Monterey. Pretty area, and I was tempted to apply for a transfer away from corporate for it. But even there, away from the city, it still has that trashed look.

Prices are going up - local dealer says they got 120 Tacoma's... I drove by, they had 3 used ones but the
lot where all the Tacoma's reside was empty.

    upload_2021-5-10_14-30-22.jpg

Same configuration list prices up $3,000 over what I paid about 6 weeks ago.

    upload_2021-5-10_14-31-29.jpg

Dealers are getting 35+ for the 2WD's.

    upload_2021-5-10_14-34-40.jpg

This was what mine listed for about 6 weeks ago... jumped all over it.

I have definitely thought about that.

but for the same reason we aren’t selling the house. My truck has become a tool of adventure. Check out my build thread - I have a sleeping platform all set up.

That being said i know someone who did similar in an Acura. It wouldn’t allow me to do as much woods ing as the truck but I could still do road trips at least.

    :spy: don’t tempt me.

but there is the human element. I had a jeep and truck in the past. Then I had a Mazda. I paid the premium to have a truck over a sedan and I’ll probably stay that way. So if I sell off the Tacoma id probably get another truck anyway :notsure: but may look at an econo box.

realistically that depends on the truck going for at the very least 38. and even at that it’s a net loss since I had to pay about 2k in taxes plus other fees. But I’ll list it and if anyone bites at it I’ll definitely let it go.

People are returning to work instead of working from home, others have cars that wreck or wear out, and more people are working so demand is strong. Add stimulus money for more demand. Supply is weak with the computer chip shortage. The dealers are making more money than ever because some people can and will pay more. It isn't only cars. Try looking for a new motorcycle, personal watercraft, or an atv. The showrooms are bare.

The whole supply demand answer seems to fit. Supply shortage, even if demand stays the same, yields price increase. But, there's potentially a more sinister answer. Government spending (printing) is well on its way to Jupiter and as such inflation will follow. This may also explain why stocks are "going up" despite hard times. Perhaps, the value of stocks (and cars) aren't going up and instead the US dollar is crashing behind the scenes. I truly hope this isn't the case but something to think about.

The economy is not as strong as people think. The underlying metrics are all garbage.

So how do you protect cash in this kind of economy? Buy something that won't depreciate?
