Just out of curiosity, how is that idiotic to think they’ll loose market share to the ranger? It’s inevitable?

Yes, but the Ranger sold more than 300k trucks many years- here is the wiki page for Ranger sales FYI:
    Screenshot_20181104-122835~2.jpg

Lots of people now driving Tacomas might have bought another Ranger but couldn't.

Tacoma is a good truck, but I might have bought another Dakota since my 97 was a champ.....brand loyalty is irrational sometimes....lol

There are many shades of green. Wallpaper is also coming back in style. It’s cyclical. There are a lot of members on here that feel the same way. Heck, many have vinyl wrapped new trucks in shades of it. FYI, green is an earth tone and I am aware of what year it is.

They will lose market share. That's a given. However, I think most can agree here. The Hilux is one ugly truck, and would just give more reason for a Toyota loyalist to buy a Ford.

Sure, I’m just saying that Toyota has never had a problem selling their pickups. They sell. Whether or not it’s more or less than another, they could always count on their side of the market, which is pretty solid (except these days, where ford people ended up with the wrong truck). I’m sure they’re not dumb enough to think the added sales from the rangers absence won’t disappear. But their base probably won’t change much. If I were to use myself as an example, doesn’t matter who sold the most trucks, doesn’t matter if the ranger does or does not exists as a production pickup in North America... I’m looking for Toyota pickups.

I highly doubt that would occur in 2020, if they decide to do that it probably would happen when the 4th Gen comes out.

I believe you are correct. The Ranger will get back it's market share from 2008-2012 taking some from Tacoma and some from F150.

Of course Ford is betting it can also get some market share from non traditional places like sedans.

I do not believe the 3rd gen Tacoma can grow it's market by enough new buyers to offset the losses to Ranger.

I also believe the days of a 10 year chassis on a mid-size truck are over.

The point of Ford moving out of the sedan space is to double development resources on pickups. Both the F150 and Rangers will see quicker refreshes.

I like the styling of the19 Hilux, over the 19 Tacoma. The Hilux looks like a simple truck with out too much flash, where the Tacoma looks like it was designed at a X-games event by milennials fuled by redbull and take out ramen. It's a very busy design, and for no reason. The Hilux also has a traditional bed, and a cleaner interior design over the Tacoma.

I hope you are correct! Hopefully all this pushes Toyota to be more innovative and come with more appealing updates every 2 years. Year to year updates aren’t very appealing across the board with any car make.

I hope it doesn't. I dont buy new trucks very often, so the longer this generation lasts the better. I hope they dont change it until 2026, then I'll buy another one in 2028. I'm not ready to have to buy another truck in 5 years, and I doubt most current owners aren't either. The 10 year cycle is part of the reason why i bought my Tacoma, I hope that doesn't change.

Edit: I'll add that the more refreshes, added features etc. There are the worse all our resale values get. Do any current owners here really want this? Is toyota willing to forgo or risk some of its reputation for longevity for it?

True, maybe it is wishful thinking on my part. I kinda hope they discontinue the Voodoo Blue color too lol... That would skyrocket the resale value of my truck :bananadance::woot:

Good points. Like ford and Chevy does with their full sizes now, you can expect frequent updates.

Chevy has the Colorado. I think that maybe more to your liking than the current Tacoma. But lets not taint the Tacoma with car-like styling.

Pyrite Mica is a nice color. I also like Brown Sugar Metallic, along with Falcon Gray Metallic. FGM, would look good on a TRD OR. Magnetic Gray is nice, but Toyota does not need to offer it every year, they could change it up once in a while.

2.7 MT should always be available.

Ehhh, I don’t see that happening. A part of the reason Tacoma’s are sought after is because of the reliability and it’s a nice midsize truck. If Toyota doesn’t become more innovative the Tacoma sales will take a hit from other trucks being brought to the market. More refreshes (~5yrs) could be beneficial in changing things up and keeping up with other manufacturers. I for one would love to see a redesign in 2021 instead of just a headlight and tail light change.
