If Ford includes a tacomaworld.com link in their advertising, it's game over 3rd gen.....jk

Electric in all vehicle types from cars to trucks is inevitable. "Electric makes sense up to a certain GVW, not so much after using existing technology." <<---makes no sense

Not sure why it’s such a huge deal. All of you could go buy fords rangers tommorrow, and it changes nothing for me and my driving experience.

Except I would talk a TON of shit

Time will tell, but I think it's being overstated by some how well it's going to sell. One big thing it as going against it is it's butt-ass ugly. It looks like an Escape with the back cut out. lol

It does have have a known brand name, but I'm not sure how much weight "Ranger" still carries. It's not the 90's or early 00's anymore - The Tacoma has long since cemented itself as the name synonymous with mid size trucks. I have zero doubt it will sell well, but I would be shocked if it's anywhere near the Tacaoma, much less puts a dent into its sales.

Meaning with existing tech (battery) it makes no sense to tow 6800 lbs with a 5K truck, including battery. The range will be measured in feet lol. Now, stack up enough existing batteries then you could have a decent range. Problem is the battery weight would eat up most of your trailer weight. It's a catch 22 right now, until they develop new battery tech. Vehicles that don't tow are easier. Vehicles with any tow capacity are hard right now.

That's why a hybrid makes a lot more sense right now for the Taco.

Hybrid is still a plumper lol. I think they will do it but right now, for a company as careful as Toyota, they will wait on the proper tech to develop.

For me, it's only a huge deal because I like TW and am not looking forward to all the Ford Ranger thread pollution.

I am interested in the branding aspect. Some Hal Riney style patriotic marketing making the new Ranger overlanders all warm and fuzzy.....

In another 20 or so years when I am ready to start looking for a new truck, I just might have to check one out...lol

i doubt there will be anything more than cosmetic changes to the 2020 model. car companies don't roll out changes without significant real world testing. anything like a hybrid or major redesign would already be out on the road in some sort of camouflage and likely spied by some blogger who spends all their time trying to catch car companies road testing new models.

If I was buying a new vehicle every three years I wouldn't be wasting time here or any vehicle forum.

I have always admired the guy who wrenches on his own vehicle and keeps it running for as long as possible. There is just something about it that feels "right" to me, and that is the plan with this truck.

TW is going to be useful once real maintenance and repairs start kicking in, imo.

I do have a feeling that in 20 years vehicle ownership is going to be a little like the Rush song Red Barchetta, but nobody knows for certain what the future will be.

This, and I’ve always admired the person who took extra special care, the details and the extra mile, pride of ownership. Especially out here in the east, you have to work that much harder to keep it up, but it’s worth it.

Exactly. I drive a lot of miles in my job and I always trade about 100K miles. I don't get hurt much financially by using a Toyota or Honda. I have kept vehicles for 150-175K but now some real maintenance is needed. Basically it comes down to pay now or pay later. I choose to pay now because like you said... who knows? Life is short so I want to enjoy what I drive. If I only put 10K a year on it I would keep them a lot longer and mod them more! I had three 5th gen 4Runners from 2009 to end of 2017.
They could be Tacomas! Who knows. Life is shorter the older you get.
