Do y’all think these starter contacts are ok?

I pulled my starter out because I have been having intermittent problems with engine turning over. Suspected the starter motor contacts were worn but now that I see them I feel like they’re not even that bad. I could clean them or replace them while I’m in here, but I didn’t order new contacts yet (d’oh!). Should I be looking elsewhere for my intermittent starting issue, or in your opinion are these technically worn contacts and I should replace? Thanks

Anything else I should check while I’m deep in it?

    Those look odd.

The kit is cheap, just replace them and the plunger. No need to ask if it's apart already.

Plunger is bit dirty, so I’ll definitely hit that with a brush… Also should mention my valve covers were leaking and I only got around to it earlier this year. The starter and all it’s connections were pretty oily so will definitely address that too.

You know off hand where to get the kit you mentioned? I have seen them before but with no plunger, just the contacts

Awesome, just took a screenshot of the boxed kit from your post. My plunger and contacts look just as iffy as yours did so going to buy the kit right away. Thank you so much for your help, I freakin love this place! TW FTW

    That looks 100 times better.

You'd be surprised how strong and robust these starters are; when people talk about replacing them I just cringe at having given up such a reliable part.

Kind of like OEM cv axles when people go to a quick lube shop and get them replaced for a cheap set.

Yes I’m so glad I didn’t just take it to a shop and have the starter replaced for an aftermarket version. Saved hundreds of dollars, the kit you suggested cost me $18. I’ve even heard complaints on here that a replacement starter doesn’t sound the same when turning over and it drives people nuts haha

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Myself I think it would have been very foolish to not replace the solenoid contacts and plunger while it was out.

Starter comes out it gets new parts. I always have them on hand.
