Do you find the Gen3 Tacoma interior a bit small/crowded?

    LOL

I started calling all the Big Trucks we see here in Delaware for some time, "Big-Ass-Trucks" or B-A-T's!!!

Lots of people have legitimate reasons for owning them but others just want some attention & notoriety with their size and loud pipes!

I sat in the Tundra SR5 without taking it for a spin during my purchase days. I've driven a wide range of big vehicles in my military career so a test drive would only prove the un-necessary Mass size to me.

That plus the tank size and mpg's had me disliking the idea of owning one.

Now, the Tacoma was more what I'm use to...a V6 engine which I had in the '03 Pilot and '10 Mazda CX-9 so the gas mileage was expected.

The back seat area on a Tundra looks spacious but unlike an SUV, the seats do not recline the same.

I'm at an age now where my first NEW DCSB truck suits me just fine with no complaints.

Have driven a lot of vehicles in my years, it doesn’t. It is about the perfect size for what I want to do, but a 2000 lbs payload and torquey little Diesel engine would make it better. The two things most people complain about on here is the dismal fuel economy and the lack of payload, since most people like to mod the hell out of them.

I almost bought a F350, but decided I spend more time commuting than I do traveling and camping. Almost bought Subaru Forester, but towing capacity is only 1500 lbs, not enough for my moto trailer, and would be well over loaded on my moto/camping trips, the Tacoma is barely adequate. It is good, but not great.

Ahhh…I own a 3rd Gen, and you must of missed where I said have owned Toyota trucks as my personal vehicle for the last 30 years.

    3315F45D-8AE3-4775-A254-90DD6775F933.jpg

Used to drive a Mack Tri-Axle for work on a daily basis. Tacomas really aren’t trucks to me, love the little thing…but feels more like a car than a truck.

    Like this but in red.

Sounds like you require the best of both worlds in the Tacoma (that of a large truck packaged in a mid-size hauler).

If you haven't seen a change in the last 30 years, it probably ain't gonna happen.

I think some of the analysis presented raises Tacoma owner's eyebrows in a way where they get protective of it.

Especially when there is awareness of the shortcomings and then it gets put on blast in an opinionated reply.

Not ruffling anyone's feathers...everyone has personal opinions. These just strike a nerve at times...that's all.

Love the little thing, but it certainly isn’t perfect. People tend to get offended when you point that out. It is good, Goldilocks size, not too small, not too big. My biggest gripes are after 30 years of driving them not much of an improvement in fuel economy, power is much better though, beats the 22R days that is for sure!…that and payload, my new 3Rd Gen is lower than my 1st Gen, It should be more. Especially when it exists in other markets…I.E. the HiLux, for the life of me not sure why Toyota strayed from the HiLux platform for the US market.

Reasoning for higher payload is I like to put camper on, but decided to do a trailer instead, since the payload is awful, the 3.5 is pretty good, but a diesel would be better for towing. Thought of a diesel Colorado, didn’t want to deal with expensive out warranty repairs for the DEF system. Drive 20-25K miles a year, out of warranty real quick. And yeah you’re right, after owning Toyotas for 30 years why change now. My 1st Gen has 434K miles on it…like to squeeze every last penny out of them.

Which is literally every vehicle out, when asking every individual. The Tacoma was never intended to be a 1 ton capacity truck. As you pointed out, the DEF equation creates issues for every new diesel vehicle, and would be no different for Toyota. Toyota is never on the leading edge of technology or the like, due to them letting other manufacturers be the test mules for technology. The Tacoma has (mostly) been built from tried and true components, and it's a good bet that the Tacos on the road will outlast any other midsized truck. Bottom line is, Every vehicle is a "compromise" to some degree.

Yep there is no perfect vehicle. Only perfect vehicle is to have a fleet of them…which we used to, and that is just more to take of, well over that. Was all over the board trying to decide what to get, Tacoma ended up being the “right” vehicle for my needs and wants.

I'm 6'3 with a 8 and a 5 yr old. They're both in booster seats. The girls have never complained about space. When I remove the boosters there's plenty of room. Have road tripped down south to visit my folks and they were fine. All the luggage and stuff goes in the bed under the tonneau.

The experiences you've had lead to higher expectations...and you have towing standards the Tacoma falls short on.

I've never towed anything more than 1K pounds so I have no input on towing constraints in the 3K+ range.

Cool video of a 4Cyl Diesel! The guy was asking about glow-plugs and the answer was...just turn the key!

I'm trying to convince my wife about traveling in a small trailer (in the 3K/lbs range). Maybe I'll get there one day...

I have no desire to go back and look at 7 pages but I’m thinking if you bought one of these why now are you having issues with cabin size or vehicle specs? Did you do your homework before signing papers.

I started with a 1986 Toyota truck and that was small. All vehicles are bigger than they were just 10 years ago. The automakers are trying to cater to the supersize people buying their products but WTF how about some personal responsibility look at the BMI charts and you’ll see most are either overweight or obese, it happened to me I clocked in at 33 BMI. I like my truck

Our old John Deere 555 was around 21,000, not including the trailer. No longer have to tow that heavy anymore nor want too. (semi-retired 50 years old). My moto trailer fully loaded is around 2500-3000 lbs depending on what I bring, so just under half capacity of max, which I feel is good/safe that truck. It does work, though would love to have that diesel so I don’t have to rev the snot out of it, while getting decently fuel economy. However like I said it is a compromise vehicle. Thought of getting a Four Wheel Camper, that would be too much coupled with the trailer for the Tacoma.

Was going to get a F350, don’t need “that much” truck right now. Maybe in 5 years when we fully retire. The Tacoma works for now.

Lol! Apparently I like to bullshit, guess it started when you suggested I carry a purse for recommending a Ford Transit Connect for a family hauler over a Tacoma. Then it snowballed from there, as I clearly don’t carry a purse from past experiences. Though if you do…NTTIAWWT. lol!

Dunno, it appears to me most guys who drive mini-vans are getting laid (at least a couple few times!)…and guys who drive bro-dozers are making up for their insecurities. lol!

I guess I shoulda did a PM for your bio! lol

Hmmm, I think I'll visit my BMI again while we're talking about interior space in the Tacoma.

I love that my Sport has a power seat...they should have made the front passenger seat power as well. My wife hasn't complained and that's all that matters.
