    This. Word for word.

I'm not going to warn oncoming traffic about a police officer ahead of them. If you're speeding it's your fault. If there's some kind of obstruction ahead of them though (animal, accident, construction, road debris), I'll turn my lights on and off 4 times to hopefully make them aware that there's something ahead.

The person I responded to said "drive the speed limit, get no tickets." My two examples are not anecdotal, but absolute proof to me his statement is flat wrong. Others, who choose to believe me, would likely agree. Don't know why you would choose otherwise (choose not to believe me). Do you really believe tickets are never issued in error and/or issued with malicious intent? Or do you just simply believe I'm a liar making all this up?

I thought it was to let people know you have A-TRAC.

I don't warn people about cops or nothing.

but I do try my hardest to get their attention when they haven't bothered to turn their lights on! Not that I care if they get a ticket, I just don't want them in a accident.

Lots of deer around here waiting to walk out and fuck people up I only flash my lights if I see deer or moose on the side of the road. I've hit 2 deer in my old car and one deer kicked my taco and left a pretty deep gash in the bumper

The reason for flashing your high beams (at night) to warn people is that they can also flash back, and then by doing so they can see the danger ahead, which would otherwise be out of their view under dim conditions.
I have had many encounters (African back roads) where I would not have seen an animal in the road if I was not flashed by an oncoming car while being dimmed. Turning your lights on and off at night creates more danger because you have a car coming at you and for those split seconds you are driving blind.

Way to overreact and choose to [snip] the part you wanted to use.

I said "for the most part" - I didn't say the other guy was right..but I do believe that his sentiment is reasonable, even if his diction isn't perfect. Again- I don't think you are argue that in the MAJORITY OF CASES: Keep your nose clean and you are at a lower risk of getting police attention. Do mistakes or vendettas occur - Sure...but lots of things that dont' make sense happen every day...All you can do it your best to protect yourself from those risks (Like don't speed).

I have my fog lights that always stay on at night, regardless if my regular beams are on or not. I also have DRLs, so even if I "turn off" my lights, the DRLs are still lit, albeit a bit dimmer than my regular lights. I'd rather have my lights flashing between "dim" and "regular night time lights" than blinding somebody with my high beams.

If there's a car behind me, I don't turn my lights on and off.

When I did flash my high beams, nobody ever flashed back, and if they did, they just flashed me and left their high beams on like total dicks (happened 4 times), so I don't do that anymore.

I absolutely do flash to warn, it could keep a couple hundred dollars in their bank account with a simple flick of a switch.

Well, perhaps I misunderstood your response. If so, I'm truly sorry. My response was to a very specific comment, which I even highlighted with bold text to make even more visible. You seemed to be disagreeing with both my objection and my examples. Your "for the most part" phrase was not added until the second paragraph, after you had commented about my examples in the first.

I certainly agree most tickets (even mine) were/are warranted and worthy. I'm not a cop critic or worse. I was just pointing out there surely are exceptions to his absolute comment. I've experienced several myself over several decades of considerable driving (truck driver, military driver, etc - even towed around a Coast Guard inflatable for a while).

Looking back, I did overreact to your comment. For that, I do apologize.

ok I was referring to the comment I quoted... not flashing some random driver with their high beams on already. if you flash someone to let them know of a cop ahead, and it happens to be a cop you flash, you could be fucked, and my comment does make sense... you have to read the whole post before you reply.
