I always flash and a lot of times people will waive thanks. It has saved me multiple times. It's just the courteous thing to do

I had a 90 bronco lifted 4" on 33s... with insanely bright off road lights.

If a db had their brights on coming at me, I'd give them the courtesy quick flash of my brights. If a couple of seconds went by with no response, I'd give a prolonged flash of my brights...

...if still no response they got my brights and off road lights.

I only flicker my lights on and off when the oncoming traffic is headed for danger. For example a major accident or a fire or just traffic coming to a sudden stop due to construction that has the traffic backing up way before they can even approach the warning signs.

    neglect, mostly.
see that im not a really big fan of. sound like two visually impaired drivers heading straight towards each other.

i do do the flash for others when i go past the fuzz, and i flash once when im approaching a driver with their brights on. . .and also to let a vehicle merge in front of me.

seems to be a Midwest thing. I NEVER heard of it until I was 30 and my girlfriend (from Wisconsin) mentioned it.

And I lived 2 years in Philly (never saw it), and now 3 years in VA (never seen it here either).

However, here in Virginia idiots are always driving around with their hazard lights flashing. Or they'll put them on if there's an accident ahead, if it's foggy, starts to rain, apparently gospel radio tells them, the fever strikes them ... idiots everywhere.

    Like I can't tell it's f-ing raining.

For starters I was much younger (read: dumber) back then.

Secondly, it was to mostly get their attention to turn their brights off.

Lastly, I was not visually impaired once I had all my lights on.

Someone with a low beam out might be using brights to actually see better and be seen better until at a distance close enough to turn them off to pass oncoming cars. They might be using them to see animals sooner like deer and shit even if lows work. I bet there are tons of unattentive inconsiderate people who don't even realize they have theirs on until someone flashes them back.

First of all the shit about randomly flashing on my part was SARCASM and yes, of fuckin course, any time there is a speedtrap I will warn others. Secondly, any cop pulling someone over for using their brights while his are on is a complete hippocrtical power trip dick move. Someone up further posted about it happening and I don't doubt it does. Assuming your statistics are always the case is really shortsighted profiling before finding out more. How many people do you let off with warning once you pull them over and find out statistics didn't play out? Or do they still get ticket just because ego or qouta won't allow a warning? I assure you if one of us is wearing panties, it isn't me so take your "pay your salary" smart ass assumption and iron yours out. I wasn't pissy one fucking bit in my previous post or this one. Have a nice safe day!

So if I flash to warn an oncoming driver of a speed trap and it turns out to be another cop, what law did I break and what can they do to me?
I could explain my actions a number of ways, also,. and FUCK them!

While your state laws might differ - the law that covers failure to dim high beam kit was quoted earlier in the thread. And an explanation doesn't really matter as far as breaking a law...The cop might use discretion and let you off based on your explanation but it doesn't change the fact you violated a law.

I flash from low to high, or off to on, for just a moment. I am not to worried about it. I still always flash when it makes sense.

Note to people that have HIDs. They don't like being flashed! Especially the cheaper ones (like the ones I had from DDM tuning)

I flash my lights but not just for cops. I'll flash if there is debris on the road or if I see deer or moose on the side.

I usually only flash if there is a hazard around the bend like a deer or debri or something like that. I dont make a habit of flashing drivers about the police because if the police sees you flashing other drivers they can get you for it.

If its dangerous and could cause an accident... I flash, better yet, I use the CB. I don't worry so much about cops, I'm not a big fan of flashing though, its hard to ensure that the correct message is getting across. They may just think t hey have their brights on. People aren't too bright these days.
