I'm not advocating that people burn cans and bottles at camp, but if your fire is hot enough, they will completely burn away. Not just melt, but turn into ash.

It will still be matter out of place.

The ash also needs to be packed out.

You will never get a campfire hot enough to combust aluminum.

Likely not a baby fire in a small fire ring. Which is why I've already said multiple times that I don't do it when camping. But it is pretty easy to build a fire that can completely burn aluminum cans and glass. My family gatherings often include a bonfire that is always hot enough to completely burn glass and aluminum. Again, not advocating anyone do it while camping, but it's physically possible.

Not to humble-brag, but there is some legit prep that should go into camping prior to hitting the trails with a cooler full of stuff picked up from the local grocer.

I have camping silverware and plate ware. Nearly everything I pack in is reusable. I remove my food from the grocery store packaging and pack it in tighter containers so I can consolidate and minimize the space needed for hauling supplies. I only take what is needed.
As far as trash goes, it's really only paper towels and food trash, which I guess could go into the fire, but I have a collapsible trashcan and bag my food trash to bring home.

It is definitely not okay to be throwing your trash in the fire. This should really be common sense. Half the people you were camping with are idiots.

Non-coated paper products and food scraps only. I pack out everything else. I also search the site for more garbage left by fuckwads to leave it better than I found it. Proud to say that was taught to me by my parents at a young age. Found a sheet of aluminum foil in the woods last weekend big enough to cook a turkey. Idiots like that should be banned.

Also make sure your fire is COMPLETELY out. Embers can still burn while buried. Thoroughly douse your firepit. Turn it into mud.
The things you learn when your camping buddy is a firefighter.

I really enjoy my 'fireside outdoor' fire pit. It counts for a fire pan on river trips and is smaller than a camp chair. Allows me to use charcoal in areas that don't allow wood, burns fuel down to ash and is fun to cook on.

Sorry I don't have any pictures... It is becoming apparent that I don't take enough pictures, but I trust your googling skills.

Seems like the trend is more people going outside to enjoy nature, let's help be good stewards of the land. That includes human waste, dry sand and altitude above 8k make for crappy denigration of human poop. The amount of human waste carried out by managing agencies in CO is hard to fathom.
