I was set to buy a Dasaita head unit but now I’m having second thoughts about it. So now I’m trying to get some reviews from owners of any head units with Apple CarPlay. If you have a CarPlay unit please tell me the make, model, and your opinion of the unit. Let’s please keep it to CarPlay reviews and not Android auto comparisons or any other off-subject conversation.

Thanks and I appreciate your time and opinion.

Also interested. Would love if the factory touch screen unit can be replaced by something with CarPlay.

I did it and love it. I use it every day and its worth it.

Pioneer 1300NEX cheap model but it drastically improved my audio quality, and the carplay works perfectly.

Carplay has one flaw, most have to be plugged into the phone. But that gets rid of bluetooth issues, and keeps my phone charged.

Cell phone GPS like googlemaps and waze means I'm alerted before I see traffic issues.

Texts are read to me without issue and the voice recognition with Siri is far better than any OEM unit.

Do it do it do it.

Can agree 100% with all of this.

but sometimes mine i have to unplug it and plug it back in if things get wonky or connection is lost. That might only happen 1-2 times a month though.

I've got a sony XAV AX1000 that I put in. It's OK. I wanted carplay ever since that we got our Rav with carplay I had to have it in the truck. I find that maybe it's my unit or what but sometimes out of nowhere the speakers will just start going crazy. Usually when I'm playing music and sending texts or doing multiple things at once. It's definitely not an install thing because bluetooth works fine and the radio works fine. Restarting the truck usually fixes the problem but I think it's an apple software thing.

I have it in my work truck, and i use the hell out of it. it's in the native stereo in there though, so i don't know how it goes on the aftermarket units but from everything I can tell you, apple car play is fantastic if you don't want to spend the money on a HU with integrated nav and all that.

It's nice too because passenger can change the nav while driving unlike factory GPS.

Spotify is bad ass too, you can do a lot while driving.

^confirmed. Spotify integration and navigation on the screen is awesome. I don't have it in my taco and my work truck makes me want it.

I may have asked you this in another thread, but does that volume knob also function as a power on/off button?

Have been using a Pioneer AppRadio head unit since about 2015 and haven't had a single connection issue with any of my iPhones through the years. Now enjoying wireless CarPlay using this adapter:

What did you mean that the passenger can change the navigation while driving?
I don't have Apple CarPlay, but I used it a couple times in rental vehicles and the one thing that annoyed me was when I'm having it navigate me to a destination, the passenger holding the phone couldn't jump ahead in the navigation to tell me what's coming up, like which lane to be in. If that makes any sense.

Get wireless CarPlay. Pricier, but you won’t regret it. Kenwood units are very nice. Some of them plug into the ODB2 port so you can read/clear codes at a basic level.

I just installed the Sony XAV-AX5000 this weekend. Ive got it working very well. When i finish the install of my front and rear camera, i will add some pictures.

Overall, the sound is better than stock and the maps, music, etc are great. I use it everytime i get in the truck, plug my phone in and put it in the cubby right of the steering wheel.

I have had both Dasitia PX5 and PX6 units, as well as my current unit (Pioneer WC6600). Car Play worked fine in the Dasitia units. I used a Carlin USB wireless adapter on the PX5 and the PX6 had the wireless adapter built in. Both units were functional, all be it a little slow during startup. The PX6 has a DSP chip, so the sound is considerably better than the PX5. The Pioneer WC6600 is much better sounding than either of the two Dasitia units, quick in startup, just not as flexible (unable to run applications natively on the unit). However, if you can jailbreak your iphone, you can run any application that runs on the iphone mirrored on your head unit with full touch screen controls (CarBridge).

    What it boils down to:
    1. Cost - you will spend half as much on the PX6 vs the WC6600
    2. Overall goal - If it is to run applications, buy the PX6. If it is audio, buy the WC6600.
