Yes, I have a CB in my truck and use it quite often. Also have a ham radio (at home) and license, currently not used at all. Far more locals in this area (car drivers, truck drivers, off-roaders, etc - the people I most often need or want to contact in my vehicle) have CB radios.

In my opinion, ham radio falls far short of the hype - a waste of time (for the license) and money (for the equipment). Many seem to get into it to impress others, not really communicate with others.

Yep but nobody around me ever seems to have a working one so I haven't been able to use mine much. I'll try and get a pic later.

This is true. I know a few people with HAMs who don't even really use them. They are very expensive too. I do plan on getting one asap but I actually have a good use for it.

Most importantly I use radios at work all the time, and we operate on commercial 460 band. I often times use my vehicle while at work, and I would be able to switch from my handheld to the mobile. Sometimes if I have other people in the car using radios as well, we get major feedback together. So now we can all turn our radius down and use the vehicle one.

Other benefits include a scanner capability which I've always wanted a scanner just to listen for fun. And then my last reason would be communicate off road or listen at the races.

Yes and no. Yes I have CB. But no, it's not installed.

I do have my Ham radio installed in my truck, a Yaesu FT-8800R and yes I use it quite frequently.

No. But I might like a compact CB if it could help me in a jam or to assist others. Just have to find out what is good, what is good enough, and what to avoid. I supposa a ham rig would be better IF I KNEW SOMEONE ELSE WAS OUT THERE TO COMMUNICATE TO.

So I guess the next stem would to see what others that I migh go wheeling with use.

How do you like that one? Can you clarify something for me... I need a ham that can receive AND transmit on 464.xxx I'm not sure the exact frequency but I know the first part. The manual for most of these say they receive up to 470 but can only transmit up to 450. Does this model transmit up to 464.xxx or can it be modded to do so?

Edit: its 464.5500 and we use PL tones as well. I need a ham that can communicate with my work radios.

You will be able to listen but not transmit on that frequency unless you have the necessary license to do so. Refer to the image below to determine what license you will need to get.

I dont even see 460+ on that chart anywhere. We use either the Kenwood pro talk TK-3200 or the Motorola ht-750 or ht-1250 and all those handhelds run that frequency. None of us have a licence and we use them everyday. You can buy those at any radio shop without license. So if I need a license I'll get whatever license I need no problem. I just need to find a radio that and tx and rx on 464.5500

    I like it very much.

464.550 MHz is part of the Private Land Mobile Radio Service also called business band. It requires an FCC license and is not covered by the amateur radio licensing system. Like wise, you can not use a type accredited Ham radio to broadcast on the business band frequencies. Likewise it's illegal to use the GMRS service for business use (as it is with amateur radio as well).

If you are using it for business purposes, then you will need to be licensed through one of the business radio services and use a radio built to operate in those frequencies, or just use a CB.

So your saying that my entire company is breaking fcc regulations? Regal cinemas (Edwards) also uses this exact frequency. I know this cuz we often communicate with them. And I know for sure that the movie theater employees are not fcc license cuz I'm dating one if them
