Do you have a front spacer/rear block lift?

    A couple things
I have a 1" above coil spacer in the front, gave me almost exactly 2". I put a cast iron 1" block from Wheeler's in the back. No issues whatsoever. Passenger side is a quarter inch higher than driver, but front and rear are within a quarter inch of level both sides.

Got the truck up off the 265/70-17s nicely.

I used to... had a revtek 3 inch puck and a block in the rear... took it out cuz it rode pretty rough. Everyone’s opinion may differ I just liked the stock ride quality too much to justify losing that, now just saving for bp51s

I’ve got a cheap ass spacer lift in the front! On a 25,000 dollar truck. Zero embarrassment here. To be honest, the ratio of money in the lift vs how much the truck cost is about as relevant as Donald trumps to Elvis Presleys... and if I felt the need to flex my fab nuts and coilover dick size id point to my 01. I’ve got the toytec 1/2 spacers, got me 1” lift in the front. Did not fuck with my ride quality, did not fuck with my suspension or driveline geometry in any detrimental way. In other words, this “lift” didn’t ruin what engineers spent a lot of time working out and didn’t put a lot of components under questionable warranty...on my 25,000 new truck.

    All stock
and I agree with your first post. stock shocks are not bad. if you just want a quick and easy 1" lift. and don't plan to off road it more than 10% of the time, its a good option. I had 1" spacers once (4Runner) and after the shocks gave out, I replaced them with 5100s. Not to brag, but the 5100 increased the ride quality significantly. That is why so many people bag on the stock suspension, they both cost the same (within $100) new.

I'm ridding out my shocks and plan to get 5100s and lift the front a notch.

Yeah, I think I will avoid this. What I didn't realize is the revtek 3" kits are a split spacer design using an in coil spacer and a top spacer. In coil spacers definitely stiffin up the ride. I thought that the newer trucks maybe had different geometry allowing for a larger above coil spacer without issues the 1st gens had with over extension/ball joint issues/ball joint to coil contact/etc.

I will avoid a 3" spacer lift do to the stiffer ride.

Thanks for the post. i think this is the way I will go, just a small above coil spacer to level out the truck and maintain factory ride quality.

I like the stock suspension, that’s the first time I’ve ever said that about stock suspension...and I’m on the trails every other day. When they go, I’ll install something adjustable. 3” hockey pucks will destroy things if actually used off road, I just figure I’ll put that out there.

Got a quote on 5100's , and 1 inch block (rear) for $600 installed with alignment. Is that a good price?

When I initially got my kit installed, it was $500 including alignment. My thought; good price.

I am a proud owner of front spacer rear block lift.

I had them put on my (at the time) 80,000 DCLB. Soon after, I noticed that my needle bearing went bad.... I had the needle bearing replaced at the dealership (under extended warranty). mine is 2.5 front and 1.5 rear. I was not happy with the loss of rake and added Firestone RideRite airbags in the rear. that got me back to 2.5/2.5.

Other than the needle bearing issue I have had not problems. I had vibrations but they were due to the tire/rim combo and fixed with a road force balance.

if you are doing a lift/tires/rims you might want to do them in pieces so that you can troubleshoot vibrations... do the lift and alignment and drive it for a week. if you have any vibrations or issues you know it is the lift. Once you are happy, add the tires/rims and deal with that. Just a thought.

I have a spacer lift/block and have no issues with it. I don’t go off road much and if I do I’m just a bit careful about it as I know my lift isn’t very functional for any real off road capability, but I enjoy the look over stock and 98% of the time I’m going down the highway to work and back. Is the ride a little stiff sure. But it gets the job done.

This may not make me popular but if there is one thing I notice about the Tacoma community is that there is a very strong opinion that unless you have a 2000$ + lift you’re not a real man or something. Not everyone has the budget and a lot of people don’t have any need for a fancy coilover suspension with reservoirs and all that. Maybe I’m just jealous because I could never responsibly afford something that nice and justify it. We get it, spacer lifts are not ideal and yeah they probably don’t ride that great.. For an average user who just wants a little lift and some meaty tires that’s all you will ever need. If you want a Cadillac ride then don’t buy a truck.. Don’t get me wrong I admire the people who are passionate about their trucks and invest in nice things and enjoy off-roading, more power to you, your trucks are a work of art and I enjoy reading about them and can appreciate it, I am not hating on people with nice things and who want the very best for there truck and love to off-road.. But sometimes it’s like listening to a bunch of snobs on this forum looking down on people who don’t have an expensive lift. Many people who honestly don’t have any need for one... I guess if I had a real nice lift id want to brag about how great it is to. I know there are some better options for not much more $ without going all out, but still spacer lifts are not the devil everyone makes them out to be you just have to know that its a cheap way to lift and doesn't offer any real extra capability off-road and will ride a bit stiff (like a truck should imo). Sorry for the rant..
