Do you have a vibration buzzing sound from under glove box?

Just returned from vacation and put about 1800 miles on my truck. Noticed (with radio turned off) a vibration buzzing sound that seemed to be coming from under glove box somewhere. It was really annoying and constant at over 50mph .. was wierd that when i'd let off gas pedal it would stop then start again when accelerating back up to speed.
I had my wife feel around and see if she could figure out where it was coming from and finally she did .. it was coming from the passenger kick panel area under and to right of glove box. Upon further inspection at the next stop i found a sort of thumb screw that holds panel down and it was loose, tightened it up and no more buzzing vibrating sound
.... just thought i'd share in case you have been hearing the same sound and couldn't figure it out

Thank you for the tip! Mine was loose as well and hadn't been able to find the source. The thumbscrew is very easy to find. Located on the bottom right of the passenger floor.

Thanks for the tip. Might be the culprit I'm looking for. Also vibrates only under acceleration, but in my case it seems to be temperature related - happens when the truck shows exactly 21C.

 

Check it out and see if that screw is loose, it could very well be the culprit

 

"Thumb Screw"..? Isn't that just a screw..?? What's a thumb screw..?

Whatever the hell it is .. you can tighten it with your thumb and finger as it sticks out from kick panel when tight ... so thats what i called it. No wonder under your name it says "Grumpy Old Guy" LOL

 

Seems to have solved my problem Good find. I was searching for the noise up under the glove box.

You are very welcome and glad it fixed your problem. It was driving me nuts on our vacation .. i never really noticed it before cause i usually had stereo on. My wife turned it off to nap while i was driving and thats when i noticed it .. it drove me nuts for over 200 miles till finally i ask her to see if she could feel where it was coming from.

 

Yes, horrible design flaw. I might even replace that cheap plastic cap with a real acorn nut and washer to ensure the problem doesn't come back. My girlfriend and I have been trying to figure out where it's been coming from for months now. Never heard before when driving by myself cause of the stereo. Thanks again!

 

Just tried this today at lunch, praying my evening commute is quieter. I have tried many things, including taping wires, re-installing the back trap door on the glove box (no luck), having the passenger listen for the buzzing. Even tightened the little screw thing, although I did not get it very tight. Tightened it up snugly today, paying this works.
