Do you know of any BLM land that has no public access?

BLM is looking to identify lands that have no legal access. Because a lot of BLM land (in the west) came from land swaps with the railroad companies there are a lot of "Sections" that are landlocked by private lands. The adjacent owners often restrict access and use these lands as their own.

If you know of any of these areas you have one month to let the BLM know about them. See this link.https://www.blm.gov/press-release/bureau-land-management-seeks-help-increasing-access-public-lands

I wonder if they're going to go about it the way CA does with beach access or just go full imminent domain and sneak a road in.

A long time ago I was on the BLM Resource Advisory Committee. We were trying to consolidate these pieces by selling some and buying others. It was tough. There is a lot of opposition when BLM tries to sell land even if it is a trade for other land. This was stuff in far northern California where the BLM land looked like a chess board with every other section being private. Locals didn't want us to succeed because they were using the land as their own without paying taxes and they controlled the access unless a public road intersected the section.

Kinda hard for us to know about it if we can't have access to it.

This is a really weird request, though. I mean, it's basically, "hey can you guys tell us where our land is that you can't get to?"

Since I work for the feds, I do understand how this is possible, lol...

In an ideal world, a simple parcel map overlaid on a BLM coverage map with a few buffers and conditional searches would tell you what they are asking.

Yeah this question seems like it should be answerable with GIS.
