Do you laugh, ignore, both?

The spouse and I were BSing as I was getting caught up on TW posts. I laughed about a DB poster that is clearly outright lying about military service, or at the very least embellishing at a ridiculous level. Years of service keep changing, locations keep changing, dude is basically Jason Bourne. Spouse says I should blase them for it, but I think it's better to ignore the confrontation. How do you all approach this kind of thing? I don't see any financial gain such as discount requests or anything like that. To me it just seems like a lonely dude making things up for attention.

That is pretty much how I always approach it. I just don't see the value found in an internet confrontation. Just turns into a he said, she said, it was classified so I can share details type argument.

 

I ignore it.. most those people have some sort of mental disorder and some truly believe they've done what they say. Pathological lying is linked to some disorders

 

I report each and every instance to the FBI internet crime division.

So my eyes are not all the way focusing yet as I just woke up and I'm still on the first cup of coffee. I read this without the small text the first time. All I could think of was "damn... dude takes this seriously".

 

That's a good point. Likely not getting anywhere even if there was a confrontation in that instance.

 

I would challenge them to a duel...kidding. Ignore it, do not let it mess with your peace.

Declaration of war is the best approach. Kidding; no need to jump into a pissing battle, but if its being used in an abusive way, and if it bothers you enough, ask questions. They'll either get really defensive and throw themselves under the bus for all to see, or they'll tuck tail and run. Or maybe they're legit. A lot of people who are crazy as hell and pathological liars have served this country.

 

That's how I felt as well. No discount requests or hookups being asked for. More just ridiculous story telling. So I don't think it's worth the effort. I was just curious as the wife is completely against that approach.

 

You can actually do that on here. Only ignored six accounts in my time here, but damn does it make a big difference.

 

Maybe your wife can create an account and flame the guy then Sounds like there's some tension that someone needs relieved, and better some stolen valor internet stranger than you, right?

 

Nah.. married 10 years now. I'm getting yelled at either way.

 

sometimes it's fun to just play along with them.....start some random BS and see where it goes. Internet entertainment.

 

There is no shortage of stolen valor. I would ignore him until it gets absurd.

 

Unless the dude is posting up pics of himself looking like Patton at McDonalds I'd just ignore it.

Lol, thankfully no pictures. But he is clearly behind every major special forces operation in the last 35 years.
