I lived here from 78-81 then left for the military....came back in 87 and stayed through 96.
Just came back two months ago and I really do love it as well.
There is a bit of everything here and as far as the heat goes, like anywhere else, you get used to it. EVERYTHING is air conditioned and everyone has a pool or access to one.

I love it here. I grew up in S. Cali then lived in Ala. for a while and AZ is by far the best state. Been here 17 years now. I hate humidity so this place is great for avoiding that. You get used to the heat. Most people that I know that complain work in A/C offices and drive A/C cars parked in A/C homes. I have to work outside year round and it's still worth it. We do have lots of lakes here to cool off in.

Name it! Great restaurants, cool night life, fishing, hunting, camping, wheeling...We have Mountains, deserts and forests. During the winter its 60 here in the valley but if you drive 2 hours north you can have snow in Flag. Couldn't think of a better state to reside in...all my own personal opinion of course

seriously dude? it doesn't matter if you're competitive. don't come out thinking you're the shit and can get on a FD without a problem. you will be applying with thousands of other people for a fire job here. expect to be working another job somewhere else when you first get here because it may take awhile to get on somewhere. hopefully it doesn't take long if you do end up coming here and i wish you well.

    good luck.

LOL think you misunderstood, I'm not saying I'm the best of the best. I'm just saying I dont mind to apply a lot of places and be competitive. I understand they're hard to get. Dont want you to think I'm trying to say I'm better then everyone, I hate those kind of people.

Well I'd like to land a job first before moving if I do so. So I'll probably end up just applying then flying over there and taking the tests. Then if all goes well and they want to interview me then fly back again.

I will be buried here..hopefully when I am old and crusty. I came here after living in your neck of the woods and while Kentucky is nice, the summers and winters blow ass. Too damn cold..and too damn humid. The summers here get m'effing hot and after about 2 months, you start to grow tired of the heat. But in the winter, you wake with a boner because it is so nice out.

One thing has not been mentioned is what I think one of THE most important things about AZ...the sun! It is always shining and you can count on it being sunny out 99 percent of the time. Being in the sun changes your attitude..it lifts the spirit. What do you most people hope for when the weather is shitty..a nice sunny day!

I am currently in Afghanistan and the weather here is sort of like AZ is right now...not a big change for me. BUT..this place is a shit hole. God Bless those that are outside the fence, on foot, working this cesspool of a country.

Through cadets with the chandler fire department the ONLY openings we heard
were with pheonix but thats closed now, and it was about 20 spots? don't remember, but all in all
From what I hear there aren't any hiring.. And the chief/firefighters who run it
try to help us get the word on job positions and help us get hired.
    Its a great Program! :D
