Mine almost never downshifts on auto unless it absolutely has to, as I would with manual as well. I hate auto transmissions normally, but this one is pretty good... the manuals in the second gen taco's are absolute crap... only reason I didn't get one :/

Cruise control in general I like, on my truck though I hate it. Going up hill it speeds up/downshifts and going down hill it slows down. Really annoying. I wish I would have bought a manual transmission sometimes.

have had cruise controls in every vehicle i have owned for the last 20 years or so. if it didn't have it in there when i purchased the vehicle, i installed an aftermarket unit. same as my 2013 brand new base, regular cab, 5 spd manual tranny taco i just purchased 3 weeks ago. it didn't have cruise so i just got done installing it last night. i can't maintain my speed worth a crap and hurts my right leg to sit there and hold a foot pedal.

Never use it. Driving a manual I forget about it. On the other hand I need it in an automatic.

I love mine and never had a problem with it...used quite a few times for LONG drives to Florida and back..up and down the mountains and it only shifts when it has too...very smooth. MPG is also better for me in cruise.

I use cruise control whenever I can. I usually always set it at 65 mph on the highway.

Use it except when in heavy traffic... saves on the tickets.

I use mine cc all the time on highway runs to take out my toys. Keeps me from speeding and maximizes gas mileage .

    Lol!

My sister is like that, she's afraid the car is going to slam on the brakes or violently accelerate into the car in front of her. I have driven so many loooong trips I can't imaging not having and loving CC.

The only thing that bugs me is when my cc is set and a car in front of me doesn't use it. They vary their speed and if I go around them, half the time they take it as a personal insult and speed up to get back in front, then a few miles later.. slow down. Ass-hats.

Can't remember if I responded to this thread yet. I have it and never use it. I get tired really fast when I do use it on the hwy.

I only commute 10kms round trip everyday and I take back roads so no need to use it then.

Cruise control on my list of mods to apply to my 2010 base double cab. Performance issues aside, it is great for reducing driver fatigue on long trips. Best ever is the dynamic radar cruise control in my wife's 2011 Prius. If I could retrofit that to my Tacoma, I'd be very happy.

"I haven't read through the thread at all, so I'm sure I could answer this question if I wanted...

But how could anybody HATE cruise control? It's useful any time you want to maintain speed on the interstate, and if you don't like it you don't HAVE to use it. Seems like a silly thing to hate."

This thread was started in 2010. Most of the gripes were about it seriously downshifting on any type of incline. I live in the mountains and find the cc responds really well. Looks like Toyota figured it out.

"Don't use it in the rain!"
    Great point!
