Cruise control is the only item that has kept me from getting speeding tickets for the last 40 years in sales. The Tacoma speed control is just as effective as any other vehicle I have driven. In fact, I set the speed at 65 (giving me a little over 21 mpg for a V6) and it holds the speed up hills without dropping to a lower gear. It amazes me that it holds the speed better than the GMC 5.3L that I traded in on it.

I can take it or leave it. I don't use it around town, and I usually forget I have it until I'm halfway through a long trip.

The one time traffic conditions allowed me to use cruise control last year, it worked fine holding 75 mph even on grades. I had the brake override ECM flash done.

For throttle-by-wire vehicles like the Taco, it really costs Toyota next to nothing to implement the cruise control logic. I'm glad it's there for the rare long trips...

    Looking!

I wish it had a bit more leeway before downshifting. I can drive up a hill with no cruise, and it slows down just a little. Cruise control on same hill drops one gear, then another and has the engine screaming by the time it gets halfway up. Works okay on flat land though.

I live about 1 1/2 hours from the hill country in Texas, which i visit about 4-5 a year, so basically leaving my flat part of Texas, Houston area, I do use it, but once I get in the hilly region, I just control it most of it with my foot. I will use in the hill country every so often, but I don't like the sudden acceleration

I love my cruise control. The base model Tacoma I wanted didn't have cruise control so I had to get the SR5 package to get cruise control. I have a 52 mile one way trip to work so the cruise control comes in handy keeping my speed at the speed limit and not having to worry about cops when I see them. Pisses me off when someone in front of me sees a cop up ahead and then slows down causing me to have to take the cruise control off:mad::mad::mad: If ya were driving the speed limit or under the speed limit, then why do you slow down????? I just go right on pass the cop and about my way. My cruise control holds the speed very well and speed doesn't drop at all when I am on inclines. Maybe it has something to do with having a manual transmission.

Couldn't live without it. My commute is 80 miles each way and 70 miles of it is interstate. The only way I can keep my speed down is with cruise.

This. It basically sounds like I downshifted into 2nd gear while going 55mph up a hill. Not a good sound.

I like mine in my 09 Taco, but it's not as refined as the cruise control in my 2000 Outback.

I love having cruise, but as others have mentioned, the cruise on the Tacoma is not as refined as one might hope.
I not quite sure I have fully recovered from the first time the cruise was getting me to the top of a very long incline, and right before it reached the crest, it down shifted and began accelerating. If there had been a slow moving vehicle past the crest of the hill, I would have rear ended it. Since I am now aware of this quirk, I am leery of the cruise on inclines. This should not be.

Also, I find it interesting, that for some, using the cruise results in better gas mileage. My experience has been just the opposite. On a recent trip from the mid-west to the east coast, using cruise, the average mpg was 18.4. On the return, I intentionally didn't use cruise, and the average mpg was 20.4. Same route, same speed, same driving conditions. Absolutely a miserable drive without the cruise, but I was really interested in seeing if their was a difference in mpg between using cruise, and not.

I hardly ever use it, usually cant find enough room to use it and always wind up hitting the brakes or canceling it due to traffic. I guess it depends on where you live.

I still enjoy using it, almost always on freeways. And I never have to worry about exceeding the speed limit.

i like it, but my toyota and the 99 mazda that preceded it dont have it ... up till then my previous hondas all had it (91 civic, 94 accord, 96 integra) ... whats even funnier is the longest road trip ive ever done to date was in the mazda without it, and that was Chico, CA to Minocqua, WI ... then after the summer back to Chico, CA by way of ND, MT, ID, WA, and OR.
