I'd love for there to be an I6 renaissance before ICE is phased out. Packaging is possible by replacing the belt driven accessories with electrically driven ones.

Things change and most don't keep vehicles very long. Families grow and many other factors make it necessary to sell. In my case I bought a bigger RV.

I believe I'm one of those people lol.

I'd still have mine but daily driving a stick just wasn't working out for my knee anymore. I said fuck it if I'm gonna drive an auto it's going to be a V8, so that's what I got!

The 4runner is my first non-4cyl, I enjoy it but I do miss my plucky truck. I'm sure I'll own another 4cyl 5spd someday.

I'd get that looked at, 14mpg is the low end of what I've been getting with 265/70/17 AT tires on my 4.7L 4runner.

Yes it's a shame Toyota had to source an I6 from BMW for the Supra. My fav engine is an I6, then a nice rumbly V8, or a high revving Italian V12. The 4 banger does what it has to and is reliable but darn if that thing doesn't sound buzzy and harsh...

Wait till EPA mandates make us drive 3cyl and 2cyl engines before we go all silent on electrics.

At that point I think I may go Demolition Man style and rebuild a V8 or I6 underground and keep that running on stored away fossil fuel!

True. I felt the poster was indicating the 3G was the first non-Japan taco. Maybe I misunderstood.

Those shitbox 3.0L motors were built in Japan no?

    That would explain it.

I get 17-18 city wity my spirited driving in my v6. Im on 265/70/17 C load ko2s. I try to avoid jack rabbit starts and coast to red lights if possible.

Yeah, i found that funny that poster stated 3rd gen is the first "non japanese" taco. My buddy had 2nd which was made in texas and it was bulletproof, not a single issue.

I believe the 3.slow was made in japan, yes.

Sadly I do not, I try to shift at 2k rpm...which is why I'm disappointed in the mpg.
My commute to work is only 5km each way though so maybe the short drives are really not got for it?

Done the usual filter, plugs, maf, etc. Seems to run fine so not sure what's going on?

Strange. Those 5kms are all sea to sky?

But yes, short drives are not great for fuel economy, especially in the winter time. The ECU is trying to dump more fuel so the engine gets to operating temps quicker. My truck only gets to about a "quarter" if i drive around 5km. But still 16-17 litres per 100 is way too much for a four banger. I would have to drive like crazy to get that. I usually get 13-13.8L per 100 city and about 10-12L per 100 km if not going faster than 115. I go quite a bit on sea to sky, from surrey to Britania/squamish/whistler and my averages are usually around 10-11L per 100. If i drove more conservative, they would have been even better, that hwy is way too much fun:)

Also, maybe you are lugging the engine at 2k? Just a random thought. I know that 4 banger makes power and is happiest at higher rpms.

I noticed this engine takes the longest to warm up out of all the vehicles i had. Im guessing it has a lot of coolant?

I am running E rated 285s on steel rims though so that would tank the mileage correct? Yeah all sea 2 sky.

Sure, but not like 35% worse than stock. Plus, its all highway. I dont get it, hmmm. Have you changed your plugs, coils, air filter, diff fluids? What gas are you using?
I ran E rated stock size and now running C load 265/70/17 Ko2s, i can achieve advertised or better MPGs. I got no lift though.

Have not done the coils, but did everything else. Its difficult to tell because these 4 banger run pretty quiet so its hard to tell if anything is wrong? I do have a P0138 but that should not affect mpg. a/f sensor is functioning correctly. Small 1" lift.

    Nice truck!

That code is bad 02 sensor right? So could very well degrade your fuel economy.

Probably a stupid question, but are your tire pressures correct? E loads require more PSI to carry the same amount of weight vs P rated.

It's downstream 02 after the cat so that shouldn't affect mpg, I've replaced that sensor and the code is still coming back, so more diag needed on that one...tires are around 35, I could try 40psi and see how much difference that makes...it's an odd one for sure.

Oh I see. I run my E loads at 35 and my C loads 36-37, still get good fuel mileage. I tried 37-38 in my E load Ko2s and they rode like garbage.

Yeah, something seems to be off... I wish you luck man!
