recently bought a set of 255/85/16 dick cepek tires and long story short they ended up in the wrong state so I have to call and complain. But it got me thinking of 35s instead..

I’d have to save up for them but does anyone regret it? Would you rather go back to 33s or happy with 35s as a daily driver with some trails.

Honestly if you have to ask, you're not ready for 35s. That sounds stupid, but there's a whole lot that goes into properly making 35s work. Wheels with proper backspacing, cutting fender/flares, aggressively cutting the cab mount, hammering back the firewall, and regearing both differentials.

Yeah it's no easy task. That's the proper way to do it at least, but that doesn't mean everyone does that. That's why I'm happy with 295/70r17. Still a little bit of work to make them fully clear, but not a massive headache. And no regearing!

Not to mention a ton more stress on your steering rack and CV axles...if you end up locking the front diff later down the line you best keep a couple spare CVs on you at all times with 35s lol.

I feel like the regearing would be a gigantic undertaking.. Having personally come no where close to that sort of wrench tinkering

East coast gear supply. You just order the whole third member and send yours back to them

If your going to regear you might as well put a locker in it while you're at it, if you think that's something you'd want eventually anyway. Makes way more sense to have them install it while the new gears are going in than having to redo it for a locker later on = $$$$

I'm fairly mechanically inclined and so far have done all the work on my truck, but there's no way in hell I'd attempt a regear. Too much to go wrong. I'd pay ECGS but you're looking at around $1800 after core refund for just gears alone, no locker.

wow. mine came to around $3600 for both front and rear with air lockers. the lockers are $1000 apiece if you just buy them alone

Yeah. shit's expensive. That was the only thing stopping me from going 35s, which is why I settled. One day I'd like to do it but for now I just can't justify the cost. I've been fine so far, and just winched where I wasn't fine.

2nd post about sums it up, but if your up to it it's totally worth it

Unless your running a drop bracket lift get ready to start cutting into that new truck from the center of the tire up, and when Toyota sees that shit don't expect too much if you have a problem around there!

....I won't even think about it, 33's are enough. If I need more, I'll buy a 1st gen and SAS it.

ho lee shit, I knew it was expensive but not THAT expensive, what do they charge for labor? Because the actual gears are pretty inexpensive afaik

Labor is actually very reasonable (talking about the labor to install the gears into the 3rd member, not install the 3rd member in your truck). A rear 3rd member with 4.56 Yukon is $675 and gears themselves are $245, plus the install kit for $170, so labor only comes out to $260. That's not including core or shipping of course
