How big is the city/town you live in? Does the PD in your town have a traffic unit?

Consider the size of the city/town vs the size of the PD and the size of the traffic unit.

Directed enforcement is difficult to accomplish in any agency, across the states.

How about a sensor that detects eye movements. Kinda like BAC sensors that disable the car to start.

    Throwing out ideas.

Every car should be made with a system that disables cell phones except for emergency calls/hands free stuff.

I live in a resort town. county cops. no city cops.

this time of year the spring breakers are everywhere...and 90% of them are texting while driving...

seems law enforcement only responds to dispatch, by then it's too late. :(

It should be on the car like in certain buildings that cancel out cell service.

    The better coast
Well I was just talking about drunks. I've seen DUI's at 9am before.

My post does not mean I don't worry about people on other things. Being in a college town, I worry about all kinds of people on recreational drugs, as well as drivers not being able to handle their medication.

People in general seem to loose track that they are human and believe that chemicals, let them be in a drug or a drink, will not have any ill effects on them.

Getting back on topic, people tend to think they can handle more than one thing at a time and say "psh I wont hit anyone" and by the time reality dawns on them, its to late and they've crippled or killed someone.

On top of it, the pathetic sentences people are getting for being at fault for a deadly auto accident is outragous. 30 days in jail for killing someone because you couldn't wait to look at a text message? Are you kidding me?

Yea I'm not gonna lie, charges for intentionally killing someone with a vehicle vs careless driving resulting in death are hugely different.

Texting laws don't / won't work - people want the other guy to obey them, but "it's OK if i do it".... Those people are selfish idiots!

The technology is out there to deactivate the texting functions while the phone is in motion - the DOT / FCC need to make it mandatory, and hold the cell providers responsible for its implementation. That's the only way to stop it for certain.

if I was a deputy here...I could pull over 30-50% of the vehicles for some traffic infraction/poor driving/throwing litter/plain stupidity...

but they don't...especially in "season" (spring break or summer)...

don't want to offend the tourists and upset the cash flow, I guess. :notsure:
