That's one of the reasons I really like tacomas, pretty much everything is bolted on rather than spot welded. I didn't realize the cab was as well, and I am surprised they are going to replace that section, I would like to see how they do that.

That makes me so glad to hear. I know it’ll cost more than 7k but everything is sounding like it’s not totaled but I will know for sure in a few days. But yeah I was surprised to find out how much is bolt on and I’m not complaining.

Doubt it gets totaled. I got rear ended about 3 weeks ago while sitting idle by an F150. Cracked the composite bed, bent tow hitch , cracked light with damage to quarter panel, bumper and tailgate smashed and a dent in the cab. Did about 11,000 in damage and luckily the frame was untouched. Body shop I took it to said the tow hitch absorbed most of the damage. I have to admit as hard as I was hit I was expecting a lot worse.

Will hurt resale or trade-in value.

I'd trade it in if not losing too much.

Could be totaled depending how much parts they list on the estimate. I bought my "totaled" 2019 Tacoma off road off an auction that had a damage estimate of 22k. The only parts replaced were the front headlight, front fender, fender molding, rear bumper corner piece, left tail light and the front left side suspension. The bumper and grille were intact and reinstalled. As for the body work I just had the bumper and fender painted and the dented bed side was repaired and painted as well. the total cost of parts and repairs came out to 6k which is not even close to 22k as stated on the estimate

I'm pretty sure that is more than six grand in damage.

Hey everyone just wanted to give an update on the Tacoma. So I heard back from the repair shop a few days ago and they said a minimum of 3 weeks. Today I just got the actual estimate and a more precise timeline of when it should be done. They estimated $10K for the repairs. They said it MIGHT go up a little if they discover anything else they need to fix but said the frame seemed fine but would still make sure everything is Toyota parts and back to factory specs. So yeah, but as of now the truck is being repaired and on my insurance app it says it should be done on 2 1/2 weeks. So we’ll see if anything else gets added on or the time frame gets extended.

Sounds like we are in the exact same situation. My original estimate was $9100 but they had to do a supplement for about another $1000. They have had my truck for 1 month now so I am hoping to have it back soon. Like you no frame damage but it smashed the back passenger side pretty good. I was thinking of trading it in after my diminished value claim goes through but with the ridiculous price on trucks right now I am leaning towards keeping it as long as its back to the way it was before the accident

I’d be demanding a new truck from his insurance company.

I would love to “demand” a new truck from his insurance company. However let’s be real they are not going to just give me a new truck. That’s what the insurance is for. I do agree that a new truck would be PREFERRED, however I’m not planning on selling my truck, it’s my dream truck. Plus the value of the truck will still hold. And to be honest it’s probably gonna get more beat up since it’s a trail truck that is being built for over-landing soooo yeah. But the shop it’s at is amazing and if it doesn’t meet my standards then I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

Demand a new truck over $10k in damages on a new truck? Good luck with that!

You're not only rational, but smart! You'll get more help from the insurance by letting them know you're closely involved and some what informed. Throwing out unreasonable demands will probably hurt your relationship with the insurance adjuster,,,, which isn't going to help your case.
