I went out with someone after my divorce about 11 years ago. I was 30 and she was too. We were at a nice restaurant on our 3rd date. She pulls out her cell phone and decides it's time to chose a new ring tone. She went through all of them. I was completely embarrassed. Then she called another guy and talked to him for about 10 minutes. Needless to say....things didn't work out with her.

I would try to create a mental image by saying loudly...."Do you want your underwear back on now? Wow, you are great at pole dancing!! The goat is still alive, should we just duct tape his wounds and let him back outside? Ask them how to get blood stains out of carpet. Are you sure hounds can't find their scent from a shallow dirt grave???

You know, the usual table questions.

I do like Beth's reply though. Says lots while the dolt keeps up the rudeness.

As the founding member of the UAHR (United Ass Hole Republic) I find it is my duty to correct people on cellphones etiquette in public. Since society has not yet deemed what is and is not appropriate cellphone etiquette I have made it a one man mission to educate individuals on what I feel is appropriate.

I inform people that are standing in groups, in quiet places, in rest rooms (the echo) and that's just nasty, Hospital waiting rooms, Doctor waiting rooms at the dinner table, in Lines, in elevators, Movie theater (of course), Museums, Art Galleries, Funerals, The Library, Book Stores and so on.

My preferred method is to monocle up and challenge them to a duel. Or just suggest they move 50 feet away from nearest person to them.
or just excuse your self from the conversation you are having with the person on the phone until they are finished with the business they are
    currently involved in.

I would like to make you all honorary members in the UARH to make a better society be enforcing cellphone etiquette out in public.

haha well anyways my goal was if they dont listen to me maybe they'll listen to a bunch of people, no one else says anything at the dinner table because we're friends but im sure they are thinking the same.

In America, at least in my generation and older, we've been conditioned since birth to assume that contact via electronic media is somehow more important than personal contact. When I was a kid all activity in the house had to stop when a "long distance call" came in. Many of the younger generation are slaves to their mobile devices and are essentially addicted to the cycle of pleasure they receive from them.

What really pisses me off is when I'm buying something at a Toyota dealer's parts window or Subway or some such and the clerk takes a call then handles that order before finishing mine. Of course, in an urban area I could just walk away and go somewhere else but it's fifty miles to the nearest Toyota dealer from here and another fifty to the next one.

Here's something you could do. When people start talking loudly on their phones, have a friend get up and move several tables away and then start shouting a conversation to him.
