    Depends on what it is. I always pay by credit card, and if there is a tip line, then I usually give 10%. If there is a tip jar, I'm 50/50 because I usually don't have any money on me. I might scare up a couple quarters though.

    It is ridiculous to tip on the taxed amount. In essence, it is tipping the government for taxing you?

    However, you can use that as a rounding up for a decent tip above 15%.

    What I detest are restaurants that print tipping levels (15%, 20%, etc.) at the bottom of the receipt using percentages that INLCUDE the tax! That is just outright wrong, and pisses me off.

    Tip jars at the counter always get my loose change. They need it more than I do.
