I'm still using the one that came from the factory on my 07. I have about 12 oil changes on it and never a problem.
To the OP, just keep an eye on it and next time u change the oil, just slap one on.

I got my dealer to lower the price on the drain plug washers from $1.50 to 50 cents ea. I've been putting new ones on every oil change but I think I'll start doing it every other. Alot of hardware stores sell crush washers that will fit our trucks for a pretty good price also.

Yep, that's what I'm going to do. It seems OK for far... no drip in the past couple days. I saved the washer so will put that one back on at the next oil change.

BTW, I'm not sure what kind of washer it is. It looks solid metal, black in color when viewed from top or bottom, but on the side view there is a lighter color in between the black sides. It looks solid enough to be able to re-use.

If it was that important to use a fresh new one every time, it would come in the box with the toyota filter.

Hey all you guys that don't install a new washer at every oil change, do you work for Jiffy Lube?

I am very careful to put the tape at the base of the bolt only. Oil does not seem to erode the tape at all and I have yet to have a problem using this method on any car or truck I ever owned.

I wouldn't put it over the entire thread to be sure it didn't get into the pan but at the base of the bolt it seems to do the job quite well and I only use about two wraps around the bolt.

Never has with mine. I believe you'll find teflon is impervious to pretty much any fluid you're likely to use in a car. Indeed, to even dent the stuff you have to use some pretty nasty acids (hydrofluoric acid).

I think the concern with teflon tape is that people put too much on so bits get cut off by the threads and then contaminate the thing your sealing (really bad with gas appliances). Careful application prevents that.

Did the first oil change on my 2010 2.7L yesterday. There was no washer there. Drain bolt is a one piece bolt with a flange that looks like it would serve as a washer. Anyway, I replaced it without a washer. It's not leaking.

BMW and Mercedes both include crush washers and o-rings with their filters. There may be other manufacturers too, but those are the only others I have experience with.

on first oil change I take the drain plug to parts store or napa and get a nylon washer for drain plugs, making sure that its a snug fit on the threads so it doesn't fall off when I change oil. 83 toy went 183000 miles with same washer never a drip [sold it] 06 is at 83000, same thing no drips
