Do you use a washer on the oil drain plug?

Mine looks like its stamped onto the oil drain hole...

 

I buy my filters from my local dealer and they do come with a drain plug gasket

 

I'll use them a couple of times, then replace it.

Personally, I just wish Toyota would get with the times and add a captured O ring to the bolt that can be used for several dozen times. [I'm still on the 1st drain plug on my 1998 Sonoma, no leaks]

 

They come with the oem filters I buy at my dealer

 

I always use a new one, cheap insurance.

Same here. Still on the first one from when new.

 

I've reused the crush washer every time on my last two 2nd Gene, no issues so far. I certainly wouldn't run without a washer though.

I use

90430-12031, which is aluminum core with a layer of blue (usually, sometimes black) fiber on either side. It's designed to deform slightly and is one time use. I get them by the handful from my parts guy. I change it every time I remove the drain plug and have for well over 300K of combined miles on my trucks. I do 20 ft-lbs torque, the book says 25 I think. Shrug.

 

There's something about the paint or washer that makes them stick like crazy to the oil pan. I have to give them a little pry to pop them off. But whatever's going on is why they don't leak I guess.

 

That f*cked me up so bad the first time I changed the oil (it was my first oil change ever and I was completely alone). Sat there twenty minutes trying to pry it off when I looked at the drain bolt and saw a washer......

 

I use a new crush washer every time. It's cheap insurance knowing you'll be leak free

 

Hmm. So your saying thats supposed to be there? I looked at my drain bolt and there was no washer. Just that washer stuck on the drain pan

 

I'm tellin you guys just go down to NAPA or another parts place an get a nylon washer to put on the plug and you'll never have too deal with a leak again and it'll last for ever so you won't have to deal with "gaskets" again. Easy Peasy

 

That's not a washer, that's the bung that they pressed into the oil pan to support the threads for the drain plug.

 

Not sure about anyone else's but on my oilpan that's a washer getting stuck 4/5 oil changes. My oilpan is smooth around the drain hole. lol sounds so dirty, but it is what it is.

 

While on this topic does anyone have the part # or a good source for the crush washers? My dealership used to give them to me for free, but the newer parts employees are charging me, which while being fair to have to pay for one, is not something I want to keep buying for a dollar fifty each time.
