I use a Garmin GPSMap 64S, with the high-resolution maps of the area. The screen is small, and the backlight isn't great, but it's tough to beat the number of trails on that thing.

Ram Mounts makes a mount for it, and you can rig it up to the A-pillar bolt.

I really like Motion-X for Ipad/Iphone, but I've never had a ton of luck downloading maps. It takes forever, and if your plans change you could be SOL. (It'll still breadcrumb, so you can back-track I suppose)

Garmin 60csx with NA Topos loaded. Mostly used on the bikes but I take it with me into the backcountry.

The current mapset on EnTune Nav is actually not terrible, at least in the New Mexico forests.

I have to concur on MotionX. I got rid of my dedicated Garmin roady and my handheld Garmin a couple of years ago. Now, I just use my iPhone because there are so many more features and I always have my phone with me anyway. When I'm out hiking or backpacking, I carry a small portable battery so I can recharge it when it runs out of juice. I turn off wifi and B/T to keep the batter longer, and keep the screen off. You'd be amazed how much battery life a 6s+ will provide with almost everything off. However, if I'm going for a more than a couple of days, I might dig my etrax back out of the garage, but haven't needed to in several years. Seems like one less gadget to have to keep up with.

I loaded GaiaGPS late December for a trip in the Four Corners area between Christmas and New Years. It is an app for iPhone and Andriod. It worked great!

I did use the google cache on a couple of hikes. Found another website with the hikes. Was pretty cool.

I TRY SEVERAL BRANDS BUT THE ONLY ONE, THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH REAL OFF ROAD IS LOWRANCE, AND THEY USE TO MAKE A REAL AFFORDABLE NAME "XOG", THAT HAS THE SAME BASIC FEATURES OF THE TO OF THE LINE, YOU CAN STILL GET IT ON EBAY FOR LESS THAN $200 USD

ALSO I BOUGHT THE NEW 2016 TACOMA TRD OFFROAD 4X4, THIS OPTION CAME WITH BUILT IN GPS (BY THE WAY THE SOFTWARE, IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK) ANYBODY KNOW MAKE ROUTES OFF ROAD???
