This is it right here. If you don't agree or want to join a union, that's fine. But to be rid of it all together would simply be a bad day for workers in general.

Well we do the same things.

And my opinion isn't that a union is the only way to good wages. Note that I advised the original poster to vote against the union if he was happy with his job, working conditions, etc, and I said that unions do the most good when they represent a trade. This is something I have personally observed, so it's not incorrect. The union guys make more. Maybe you don't think they should, but so what? If you had the choice between making more or less you'd pick more, as would anyone else.

But as you've put it, quit and find another job.

Someone did a study some time back and determined that over 50 percent of paid work time is wasted. And now with smartphones it's probably even worse as people text, play games and access the internet all day. (BTW, I am not at work today.)

I don't know what the answer is but it's not a union problem because, a) less than 15 percent of American workers are in unions, so 85 percent of the time-wasters aren't, and b) most union tradesmen I know work their asses off because their co-workers don't have the time or desire to carry a sandbagger along.

Well that sucks. I've been jumping between this and finising the drywall in my family room.

OZ-T My UNION does an excellent job.my dues are nothing compared to what non-union pays just for their healthcare alone.perhaps you had a bad experience with a union. I have not . My union protects the workers and keeps all costs down.

All costs down for you. Not for your company. They are slowly going broke.
