    It says right in the owners manual that some minor knocking or pinging will occur during acceleration or going uphill, and that it's normal.

    Ok, then we are to assume that Toyota has produced an engine that is misbehaving and then put a disclaimer in the owner's manual to cover for it?

    I doubt it...but I wouldn't dismiss the possibility either.
