Had some rust repairs and decided to pop off my door sill covers . Lots more rust then I thought. I’m pretty damn picky about my truck and I’m glad I caught this early. Just trying to figure out best way of dealing with that rust in wire channel . Rust converter and bed liner in channel is my idea atm. I’m not going to be able to sand it all out but if a converter can neutralize and Bedliner to protect . Oil spray a little in fall . Ideas?

There was a TSB for that.
See link below from TSB thread.
It has tips to prevent it from happening again, but you have to get rid of the rust. I'd use rust converting primer myself, then a can of color match paint.

. Thanks a lot for that. I’ve taken the affected areas down to bare metal and using a rust converter to nip any rust before I prime. Then prime ,paint and clear coat.

It’s not perfect but it’s not bad for a rattle can rust repair and repaint. Still 1 or 2 more coats of clear to go on but looks good so far. Got a new sill guard I’ll put on later in the week.

While it's still summer hot, and preferably after a dry stretch, fog/spray/flood the rockers and seams with 3M Cavity Wax 08832. The 08831 wand kit makes it easy.

Just curious. I looked over the TSB. I still don't understand the cause and effect here. Also, I have a 2020 and the TSB says it only effects up to 2019. Does anyone know what they did to prevent this from happening on 2020+?

Nicely done! Off topic but I just sprayed the front and back of my radiator and condenser with a salt killer and using a garden hose with a fan attachment back flushed the rad starting from the top. After several minutes I figured I was done when out of the corner of my eye saw a torrent of what looked like chocolate milk flowing out the bottom. I continued to flush for 15 minutes (!) until the water came out clear. I figure there must have been 2 pounds of dirt up in that bitch. So moral of the story… clean your rad and condenser

I'll definitely be doing this. Never thought of back flushing the rad. So you were spraying from the inside out toward the front if i am correct.

Thank you, OP. This is interesting. I should go check mine. Do the door sill covers just pry up & pop off? Were any of your other doors showing any signs of rusting?

The plastic door sill cover just pops off when you pull up on it and then the gasket comes off very easy as well and gasket reinstall easily over the pinch weld. I mainly use my Drivers door being a single person and no family. But the drivers side was the only one that had any rust in the channel on mine and the others were clean.

I live near a city they named for salt and they dump tons of it on the roads in both saline and rock methods. I don’t have rust in 12 years. I also run it through an automatic car wash almost daily when the roads are wet. It blast the underside each time.

I turned down the pressure and sprayed from both rear and front and let gravity do the work. Holy shit is all I can say

I just went out and checked mine. Still looks brand new under the door sill cover. A little bit of dust and that was it. Maybe my Husky floor liners prevent any moisture from getting down in there?

On Page 4 and 5 Of the linked document they talk about "flange Tape" and show clear tape being applied to the Pinch weld. But i cannot find anything like they describe as Flange Tape literally anywhere.

    Anyone got any ideas?

I can't say for certain, but I would assume it's 3M Scotchguard paint protection film.
