I’ve debated on starting this thread because I don’t want to sling mud. I do, however, feel like I need to share my experiences and create some awareness.

I installed a full set of Dobinsons IMS on my wife’s 5th Gen T4R (I know it’s not a Tacoma, but it’s relevant and I’ll use my Tacoma for comparison). I ordered the 1.5” rear coils and 2.5” front to go with the shocks. This was June of 2021. We have been pretty happy with how the suspension works and feels.

In the last year and a half I have noticed the coils developing quite a bit of surface rust. Upon further inspection I noticed what look like stress cracks in the powder coating and a texture developing that appears to be rust forming under the coating. Concerned about this being a safety issue with the springs potentially weakening from trapped rust, I contacted Dobs thinking this was a warranty issue. Sent pictures, descriptions, concerns, and sales receipt. They responded with a denial because of “salt or mud not being washed off”.

In contrast, the OME 885 coils on my Tacoma are 4 years old, 50,000 miles on them in the same exact conditions and washing routine and look brand new with not a speck of rust on them.

I have seen comments on social media here and there with similar issues and just felt like I needed to document my experience and see if others have had the same problems.
