On this thread I’m planning on documenting the ownership of my 2012 tacoma SR5, 2.7L. My goal of this thread is to help other prospective owners see what owning/daily driving a high milage Tacoma is like. I’m going to try and update all my maintinace, issues, and adventures in my Tacoma.

    -The Truck-
2012 Tacoma SR5 4x4, 2.7L, access cab. 205,000 miles at the time of posting.

I’m currently a little over one week into ownership of my 2012 Tacoma. The truck is currently at 205,000 miles. I bought this truck from a local dealership here in the Spokane, WA area. When I first went to test drive the truck there was a pretty substantial coolant leak, still wanting the truck i took it to a mechanic in town for a PPI. Luckily everything turned out okay, as it was just a loose clamp, not a head gasket failure. A week after the PPI the dealership and I finally agreed on a price, $13,500. I never found out definitely if the in house mechanic fixed the leak or not, but it stopped as soon as I bought it.

If you guys have any questions about the truck feel free to ask, i may not be the most active member but I’ll try to get back at you guys soon!

To give you an idea on what to expect. I owned my 98 tacoma for 17 yrs. The only thing that went bad was a starter motor. I did replace the serpentine belt as standard maintenance along with fluids, tires ect. But she was a good truck. Just hope my 15 will be that dependable, we will see.

My first Toyota truck was a 1983 2WD 22-RE 4 cyl single cab. Got 415K miles out of it. Engine/std. transmission/differential were OK when I sold it. The front-end steering/suspension was worn out, interior a little beat up and bed scratched to hell and full of deer blood.

Next truck - 2004 Tacoma 1st Gen single cab 4 cyl automatic. Had it for 10.5 years. This one only had 100K miles on it when I traded it in for my current 2015 2nd Gen Tacoma Double Cab 4.0L 2WD automatic. Wife hated the 2004 1st Gen. No interior room; hence the upgrade to the 2015.

Not as many frills/etc in the '83 model, but build quality/durability was better in my opinion than the 2 that followed.

Government safety mandates and CAFE standards have forced auto mfgs. to cut corners.

Check your Airpump for the smog control,2012 Tacoma's have a lot of failures, and there was a recall on the pump.
