Very curious if I could successfully install am Alu-Cab canopy from a 3rd gen onto a 2nd gen? Both DCSB. found a killer deal on one.

Well given what people are saying about the 2nd gen shells not fitting well on a 3rd gen. I think you'd be trying your luck with a 3rd gen shell on a second gen...

The cab and box are the same between 2005-2020, however the box side panels are taller and the tailgate is shaped differently. Putting a canopy intended for a 2005-2015 onto a 2016-2020 will result in it being too tall, likewise one designed for a 2016-2020 will be too short on a 2005-2015. Additionally there is going to be other fitment issues including not fitting properly with the tailgate.

Probably not worth the effort, but maybe?

Bringing this back up. I would like to put this on a 2nd gen. Owner had it on a 2016. The tailgate hatch doesn’t seem to have the curvature that most 3rd gen caps do. I wouldn’t mind it being an inch shorter. What do you guys think?

Did you get that cap? I put a curved tailgate skirt from a 3rd gen cap on my 2nd gen cap and it fits. A little short at the front, but no water gets in. The hard part is getting the tailgate curved skirt.
