I am wondering if my 2007 standard 4x4 V6 taco will accept a 2006 4x4 stock LSD in the rear. Should bolt right in right? If anyone has done this or is in the know please help a brotha out.

I would think that it would bolt in but the electronics would be where you get in to an issue. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum, I'm sure someone will chime in with a more accurate answer.

As long as you have a non e locker rear you can swap the third member. If you had the locker I doubt you'd want to install the lsd though haha

Swapping thirds there are no electronics. They are all in the hubs at the end of the axle tube

Thanks! It's not electronic. Just a 3rd member. I'll buy it then :)

Assuming you have a v6 the gear ratio should
Be the same. Just double check before you buy.

I have learned a lot from google these last couple days... it seems like they are saying that a LSD is not what I want for off-road? I figured it'd be better than an open diff right?

Are you buying the entire 3rd, or just the LSD out of it?

An LSD is better than an open diff off road, though not as good as a locker. But for trucks that are mainly driven on the street I find LSDs more useful for wet weather and snow, whereas the locker could only be used off road.

If you are just buying just the LSD there will be significant install costs needing to be done by a gearing professional. In which case I would look for a better LSD than the subpar OEM unit, such as a Trutrac. If doing a complete 3rd swap for cheap, then it is a decent budget upgrade.

If you're going to buy an LSD and install it I would not recommend OEM. Really only because if you're going to go through the trouble of putting ANYTHING in there, do it once, and do it right. I'd recommend the Detroit TruTrac LSD if you're going the LSD route.
