Does any Tonneau fit correctly?

Sorry for starting a common tread, but can't seem to find the answer in other threads. Has anybody put a cover on and have it work as expected? Looking for the right cover and have observed the following from other threads.

    1. Looked at the OEM hard cover on the new Tacomas personally and the back of the cover is very loose, flops up and down. Did not see anyway to tighten it.

    2. Posts of the Extang 2.0 showed that the back panel near the tailgate does not sit flush on the bed, it is raised in the air. It also seems a little too narrow and to short. Every post says it leaks at various places, along the bed, at the hinges etc. I know it would not be completely water proof but if it were a little bigger I think that would help. Not so sure about the not sitting flush problem.

    3. The installation of a Rugged cover had the back of it hanging over the back of the bed to keep water from coming in. The installer said he did it this way on purpose. Did not like the look of that. Did anybody move it up so it doesn't overhang and if so how did it perform?

    4. Both Rambeau and Skier said Access Vanish rails did not fit flush on back of the bed near tailgate. Rambeau used a jig saw and grinder on the rails to help it sit flat. That left a gap.

    5. Have yet to see anybody installing a Truxedo LoPro. Not sure if they are out yet. If so pics of installation of the rails would be appreciated.

    6. My big question is on the Access Original. Looks like NoDak used brackets bolted to the bed rails to install it. They then had to add rubber and foam seals to the rails near the bed. I called Access and they said their install does not use brackets. Acces rep said the truck's bed rails get removed and reinstalled with the Access cover rails behind them using spacers and longer bolts. Would really like to know if anybody installed this cover this way and if it fits correctly.

Once again sorry for a somewhat redundant post. But nobody on the Tonneau cover review post has responded about the install of the Access Original by removing the truck's rails and reinstalling them. Would really like to know if it installs this way with no issues.

I personally don't like the fit of any that I have seen yet. I Dec just to wait a but longer form them to design new one. I'm hoping to get a gator fx5 or bakflip vp once they come out.

I agree with gsxxr. Not a fan of the multi-piece tonneau's that sit above the bed(i.e OEM or Extang). Used to have a one piece fiberglass tonneau color matched on a previous truck and it was a PITA to remove to haul crap. Waiting on Bakflip F1 or VP with the Gator FX as a third choice. They look almost identical. Bakflip said they will be out in 30-60 days(for the last 90 days!!! LOL). One of these days they should get tired of my emails and just friggin make and send me one!

My factory cover fits right. Did have to move the rear track cleats a bit as the feet of the cover hit them. Now either close firmly or push on the corners and nice and snug at the back.

I just spoke to undercover, they said the flex will be out in 2 weeks. Idk if I really want to be drilling into my brand new bed though for the drainage tubes.

Factory tonneau: As delivered, the left and right rear adjustable cleats were keeping the cover from closing tightly. It closed, easily, but didn't compress the weatherstripping. Move the cleats a couple inches, no interference, closed tightly.

With my Bakflip VIP I just widened the existing drain holes to accommodate the tubes - piece of cake in the composite bed.

I wish I could get the factory cover, but my dealer was telling me they cant sell just the cover. Apparently it either comes on your model from the factory or to bad so sad.

I like the idea of the Tri-fold cover. I'm not a fan of covers like the Undercover because I want to be able to use my truck as a truck when necessary, and I'm not paying over a grand for a Roll & Lock. The Tri-Fold I can fold out of the way or quickly remove when needed.

So I suppose I have a question as well, So far the only tri-fold covers I have found for under $500 have been vinyl tops, I think at highway speed I would be able to hear the wind bouncing off vinyl. Am I wrong? Would I not be able to hear it?

I'm just kind of interested in some sort of cover for road trips to the in-laws or my parents since most of the time those trips are for a couple days and my wife likes to pack the house lol.

Call them up to get the part number but basically they are going out right now as of this week. I spoke to them a couple of weeks ago and that was the ETA for it.

If I had the money I would have a "Flex." I came close to buying one for that 2015 Colly I owned for 6 months and traded in on my new Tacoma. I watched allot of Youtube video's on them and went to the local truck supply and checked out there model. I would just drill the holes out in the bed to put the drain tubes through. If I find a bank bag laying on the road in the next month or 2 I would just have my local truck supply put it on my truck. That way if I saw something I didn't like it would be guaranteed by them.

Installed the Access cover "original" onto my '16 tonight. All went well except the installation instructions (available online pre-purchase) did not allow installation of the parts as supplied. It was necessary to flip the tensioners left to right in order that the sliders do not interfere with the side rail. Then the tensioner adjuster plates had to be spun off and flipped around. Then everything went together OK. It was not necessary to remove the rails. The rail tie downs are still usable also.
Looks good so far. No rain yet, so no full evaluation possible for the time being. Too dark for pictures tonight but I will post later as time and light allow.

Point 6 (was unable to just quote that part)...Access Vanish comes with an extra page of instructions that I followed which did not require removal/reinstall of bed rails, spacers, etc. It just installs like most others to the stock bed rails, stock tie down points still usable. The rear does not fit down quite as tightly to the tailgate as I might like, but I think I can mess with it a little more and get that to seat. I've driven on the highway today and it worked fine, no problem. It sits about 1/8" or so high at the rear corners, otherwise pleased overall.

You mean other than blkbelt42 above?
Add me to the list. It isn't perfect, but I'm happy with it for the price.

I keep looking at the bakflip and undercover systems and cannot figure out how these will work on the Tacoma bed. The top of the bed on the Tacoma's flare in for the last six inches. It is not flat the whole way back. This seems to be the problem with installation of the rails on many of the systems.

Not sealing on the tailgate doesn't bother me as much because water will just run down the tailgate and out. What does bother me is not sitting flush at the rear of the bed, seems like a major leak spot. Would like to know if you get this resolved and any pics would be greatly appreciated. Another person NoDak had to install rubber and foam. Was kind of hoping they would have designed it to fit without modifying. I wonder how tight the truxedo rails will fit. This tapered end of the Tacoma bed seems to be causing alot of problems with covers fitting.

On the Access Covers, those L brackets come with the kit. You do not have to remove the deck rails. I had to shaved down the end of the mounts to make the Vanish sit flush. IMO Access kinda half-asses it on the '16 system in that respect. But for the price, still a great cover, you just have to do a little blacksmithin' on it.
